SrI: SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah: Dearest all, Let us continue to enjoy AzhwArs wonderful verses on Thiruvenkatamudiayaan. BhakthAmrutham viswa janAnumodhanam sarvArthatham Sri Satakopa Vaangmayam sahasra SaakOpanishadh samAgamam namAmyaham Draavida Vedha Saagaram Meaning ): adiyEn salutes the ocean of Tamizh Vedam , which is of the form of Sri SaThakOpan's vaak (speech/aruLiccheyalkaL). These are linked to the thousand upanishads and includes in them all the deep meanings (Taathparyams)of Tatthva-Hitha-PurushArthams and artha Panchakam. They are nectar to the minds of the devotees of Sriman NaarAyaNan and they enjoy it with relish as aparyAthAmrutham [insatiable amirtham]. Today?s ThiruvEnkatam verse is: NammAzhwAr?s Thiruvaaymozhi 3.3.10. vaittha naaLvarai ellai kuRukiccenRu, eytthi Laippathan munnam adaiminO, paittha paambaNai yaan_thiru vEngadam, moyttha sOlaimoy poonthadam thaazvarE. 3.3.10 10. At ThiruvEnkatam, Bhagawaan, My Lord, Srinivaasan is lying down on the AdhisEshan (as His Bed). Please reach the bottom of that mountain (which is none but the AdhisEshA) immediately to go to Thirumalai. Before you get old and are disabled, make sure you go to TirumalA and pay obeisance to the Lord. Let us rush to make use of the time- when Young! AzhwAr says: [in the last line] even if you are not able to climb, be at mountain base- reach upto the mountain; have a darshan of Thirumalai mountain at least. SarvEshwaran has granted the body, mind and intellect for using the same to reach Him; Not to run amuck after worldly sensual pleasures alone. vichithrA dhEha sampatthi: ISwarAya nivEdhithum; SumithrA tells LakshmaNa that I gave birth to you only to do kaimkaryam for Srirama in the forest.. srustas tvam vanavaasaaya. Thus AzhwAr ThiruvuLLam is that we are blessed with this sareeram only to reach Thirumalai and pay our obeisance The following nammAzhvAr pASuram also conveys an identical thought - "kiLaroLi iLamai keduvadan munnam vaLaroli mAyOn maruviya kOil vaLariLam pozhil Suzh mAlirum Solai taLarvilarAgil Sarvadu SadirE" Azwar too thus reminds us of the glory of youth and exhort us to pay obeisance to the Lord at various divya desams, before middle/old age cripples us. Sri Nammazhwar would like us to visit TirumAlirumsOlai before we lose our youthful vigour. Before the ageing eludes us, let us visit these divya desams and perform our obeisance to Him. He is ever Young; ever Youthful Lord ? nithya yuvA? This reminds me of a related stanza from Kulashekara Azhwar's Mukundamaala. krishna tvadeeya padapankaja panjaraantham adyaiva me vishatu maanasa rajahamsa.h | praanaprayaanasamaye kaphavaatapittai kantaavarodhana vidhau smaranam kutaste || and Thirumangai manna?s Badarikasrama 10 from Periya Thirumozhi.[9th verse] pulaNngaLnNaiyameyyil mootthup pOnNdhirunNdhuLLameLgi, kalangkavaikkaLpOdha vunNdhik kaNdapidhaRRaamun, alangkalaayathaNdu zhaaykoNdu aayiranNaamamsolli, valangkoLthoNdarpaadi yaadum vadharivaNangkudhumE. 1.3.9 9.The five sense organs (karma and jnana indriyas) lose their stamina and strengths due to old age; the mind feels conspicuous of his disability and is ashamed to even come out in front of others and show themselves; sitting alone and laments at the inability and agony of old age that has struck with the terrible coughing and spitting of phlegm, blabbering all that comes to mind with incoherent words and murmurs to himself- Before all this happens, let us all go and pay obeisance to Badri Narayanan who is worshipped by Bhagawathas offering him thulasi garlands and dancing and singing His (thousand) Divine names. (KulasekarAzhwAr in his "mukunda maalaa" 33rd verse sings on the same token "krishna tvadeeya pada pankaja ... kutasthE.." Oh Lord krishna! at this moment, let my mind (as a royal swan) enter into the Lotus Feet of yours; How will it be possible for me to remember you at the time of death, when my throat gets choked up with phlegm, mucus air and bile?" what a brilliant upadEsam by all azhwArs in one voice!
