You may all be wondering if adiyen is mistaken about the birth place of Swamy Nammazhvar. Is he not kurugoor nambi was he not born in Thirukkurugoor?
Yes. Thirukkurugoor is the avatara stalam of nammazhvar. But a small area in thirukkurugoor is appan koil that was supposed to be the head quarters of the king kari (nammazhvar's father). Though it is a usual practice for the child to be born in the maternal place (thiruvanparisaram-udaiyanagai-nammazhvar's mother's place) it was not so in the raja vamsams. Sri Chakravarthi thirumagan was born in ayodhya only and not in kousala desam. So Nammazhvar, the abnormal (maran) divine child was born in appan koil and when the parents took the child for bhagavat darshan in thirukkurugoor Adinathan sannadhi, the child crawled and settled in padmasanam inside the hole in the divine thiruppuliazhvar.
Probably this place got the very name "appan koil" (father's temple) only because it was the palace of nammazhvar's father. The presiding deity over here is Srinivasa. Throughout the world we see that wherever a new Srinivasa temple is built it is highly prosperous but unfortunate that this srinivasa in the birth place of prapanna jana koodasthar doesnt even have vessels for preparing daily prasadams. Shouldnt we Srivaishnavas be blamed for the same? On April 4th 2007 utsavam is going to start in this divya kshetram after a very long time. But the sad state is they have to rent vessels for making and submitting prasadams.
Every year during the vaikasi utsavam
nammazhvar visits this temple dressed himself as 'vennai thAzhi
kannan'. On that day we will all visualise 'krishna trishnA tattvam'
nammazhvar as bala krishna. A real wonderful darshan!
Even though we all live miles away from our place of birth
dont we have a special affection towards our native place. The same is
the case of nammazhvar. Though he choose to meditate under the
thirupuliazhvar in Azhvar thirunagari still he has a special feeling
for appan koil and hence he visits the same every year. So any
kainkaryam done to this divya kshetram will surely bring happiness to
both azhvar and Srinivasa perumal.
Vedics Foundation, has taken this divine opportunity to buy vessels and also a storage cabinet for keeping perumal's vastrams, jewels etc. We invite interested bhagavatas to take part in this divine kainkaryam and get the blessings of nammazhvar and Srinivasa.
