Sri: SrimathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya nama: Dearest all, AzhwAr who had enjoyed Trivikraman in His vAmAnAvathAram and is the divya desam ThirukkOviloor, has mentioned in this verse (7th) that the same Trivikraman is the Kovalan, who took avathArams as Rama, Krishna, Balaramam et al. Even in Periya Thirumzohi, when he enlists the ten avathArams, he mentions Hamsa avatharam in lieu of Balarama avatharam. In the last verse, he mentions alam, (halam), it may refer to the axe that was held by Balarama avatharam. vaRpudaiya varain^edundhOL mannar maaLa vadivaaya mazhuvEndhi yulaga maaNdu, veRpudaiya nedungadaluL thanivE luyttha vELmudhalaa venRaanoor vindham mEya, kaRpudaiya madakkanni kaaval pooNda kadipozhilsoozh nedumaRugil kamala vEli, poRpudaiya malaiyaraiyan paNiya ninRa poongOva loorthozhuthum pOdhu nencE! 7 vaRpu udaiya ? the strongest varai ? mountainous nedu thOL- long shouldered mannar maaLa ? in order to let the kings get eliminated vadivu aaya ? beautiful (OR) vadi vaaya ? sharp axe mazhu Etthi - that was held by Parasurama in His hand; ulagam aaNdu ? When the mountains were flying and destroying the lands and people, Devendra cut their wings. Some mountains entered into the oceans and hid themselves. The Deva sena pathi- the arm commander of Devas- Subramanian, sent his sharp spear towards the ocean to help Devednra and attack those mountains. He is so strong. He supported along with his father, brother and mother to bANAsuran when bAnan fought against Krishna (as his daughter Usha was in love with Krishna?s grand son Aniruddhan). Krishna chased them all away and conquered them; later as per request of Rudra, (on behalf of his devotee bANasura), spared his (bANAsura?s) life and cut only his 1000 shoulders. This Lord appeared as Parasurama, and then as Chakravartthi Thirumagan Kothanda Rama, and then to understand His SarvEshwarathvam and His graceful presence at Thirukkoviloor as Trivikraman, Durga devi is there to protect the place; she serves Him by doing that role as her kainkarya. It is also to seek forgiveness (as prayaschittham) for their apacharam in bANAsura battle by the whole family of hers). (Periya Thiruzhi 2-10-6 also refers to the same). Krishna is the one who asked Durga to be born as Maayai and be born in Nandhan?s place and be swapped with Himself to Devaki?s place for letting kamsan know of His arrival. Hence Durga has intense and great devotion for Kovalan (KaNNan).
