Reveered comrades:

I agree with what Mr. Venkatesh Parthasarathy says. A statue gains respect if it is devotionally adored.
The installed statue is not going to get any such attention from any quarters. If you look at it from a different perspective, it is in fact a pain for Mr. Periyaar. I have listened to his talk in person in Srirangam itself, where he has constantly castigated Brahmins and ridiculed God. For such a person, whether alive or in statue form, being forced to be standing there and see thousands in front of the Lord or at His gateway and offering prayers, bowing to Him with emotion and joy, is a punishment by itself. I am sure he will burn with anger and frustration when he sees thousands thronging to go through the Vaikunta Vaasal on Vaikunta Eekaadhasi day.

Let the resounding chant of Ranga! Ranga! Ranga! fill the air on Vaikunta Eekaadhasi day in Srirangam to overcome
the little aberration. Let us not become blind and conjecture a mouse to be an elephant. Let Bhakthi grow and lead
us in the right path.

The action of intalling the statue is done with the intention of hurting the sentiments of vaishnavas. They wont dare doing it in front of Velankanni temple, for example. Those who claim to believe in the lord should either go out and fight for dharma or atlease not dissuade others who are able to understand the war that is being waged against veda dharma.  The lord taught Arjuna to go out and fight for dharma in unequivocal terms.

If we dont keep our self-respect high, the women of the community will leave. If a man tolerates disrespect to his cherished values, even a chaste wife wont have any respect for him. Earlier when muslims invaded Sri Rangam, the men went and fought. Seeing their husbands bravery, the women fell in to the Cauvery / pyres in thousands and committed sati. If we develop callous attitudes out of nothing but fear, the vedic society will be greatly affected.

Hello,

this is my first post in this list after having lurked around for over a
year.

IMHO, it is HE/SHE moves everything in this world, and it is HE/SHE who
has caused the statue to be placed there as a constant reminder to the
rest of us believers that, I am the doer of all things great and small.
It is not you, human, that moves the world, it is I who does so. So
don't be bothered about it.

You see, we interact with HIM/HER daily in our temples, take care of
him/her, day in / day out as we would a person who is very very close to
our heart or even ourselves. However, if you notice, statues of leaders
kept out are generally not cleaned, birds use them to ...... and ......
and are remembered only when there is a requirement to further ends.

Installing a statue only does not show the respect, it is how the
devotion is shown that matters. We take care of HIM/HER and think about
him every day, and that is what matters.

Regards
Venkatesh Parthasarathy.
Bangalore.
