Pride and Prejudice?
sAthvEka ahankAram

The fourteenth pAsuram of ThriupAvai commences with the words 'vuNgaL puzhakkadai'.
SvAmi NamAzvAr in the second thriuvAimohzi categorically proscribes the sense of egoism and egotism -nEr numadhu enRivai.

This being so, is it correct on the part of kOdhai nAchiyAr to use the words symbolic of ahankAram
'vungaL'?

The  commenator Sri Azhagai MaNavALap perumAL nAyanAr in ARAyirappadi anlayses this aspect
-true to the hallmark of a great commentator.
ahankAram thyAjyamAga vuNarndhavargaL
'vungaL-engaL' engai virutham anROA?
 ennil;

Having realised that the 'Pride' is detrimental, can they talk 'vungaL' and 'engaL'? Is it not contradictory?

The pride springing out of bodily/physical conteniton is untenable.
dhEhAtmabimAnathAlEa varum ahankAram thyAjyam Anadhu

However, the pride blossoming out of EmperumAn's connection is welcome.

Where can this be seen?
Is there a precedent?
