sri: Humble pranam to all devotees: Dear Sri Sudarshan & Sri Vasudevan: Your note is very well written and clear in delivery. Adiyen would like to continue this discussion as there seems to be a danger of leaving it as it is: For Sri Vaishnvas: ============================================================= 1: Anything we do is done as a service to him (NOT EXPECTING ANYTHING in return)? 2: During Brahma Muhurtham, we should NOT be thinking of material profits. ============================================================= These are the two points i want to empahsize, Since the post by Sri MG Vasudevan says to expect and look for benefits and talks about think of the profits during Brahma Muhurtham. And Sri Sudarshan's note seems to say this is OK. I do not think this would be acceptable by any of our Acharyas, The moment we start looking at the rewards (may it be 100 yrs or any other material benefit), the service gets tainted. HE (the LORD ) says I will give the highest rewards, but you do not keep your mind on the rewards. (Karmanye Va Adhi........Ma Phaleshu Kada Chana - Vyakhyanam) For "some" of the NON-Srivaishnavas, yes it might make sense to do ABC service and look for rewards in this world. (Since they have not been initiated and taught the Charama Slokam : Charama Slokam is supposed to be taught for all devotees right after initiation) Given this point, it is NOT ok for sri Vaishnavas to look for the benefits from performing SandhyaVandanam. Sri Vaishnavas look at it like this. If i am here 1 day or 100 yrs, it is all by HIS grace and HIS will. Never would any Sri Viashnava say it is because of MY actions. (this is against our Sri Vaishnava Samparadayam) So it is NOT correct to promote the business approach in trying to promote SandhyaVanadanam on any other Kainkariyam in exchange for material rewards in this world. > Your quote ===== How to reconcile the two? Are we to reject the >"pramaNam" of the MB? Or are we to go by the >inviolability of the Vedic tenet which says "sandhyA" >ritual as "nitya-karma" is to be performed without >expecting any "phalan" whatsoever? There are many quotations in the Vedas which say that : Indra is the Brahman, Brahma is the Brahman, Rudra is the Brahman, Vedas are pranamanas, would we post these above lines anywhere? The only way we post these are with the proper context and intent. Same with any other pranamas, we have to take the full intent and context to get the meaning here. > Start Quote > > => At another location in the mail there is a QUOTE > "One should wake up from sleep at the hour known as > the Brahma Muhurtham and then think of both religion and profit." > > ---- End Quote Thinking of profits seems "Contrary" to what we might want to do during Brahma Muhurtham. Please do not mistake these points, Azhvar Emberumanar Jeeyar ThiruvadigalE sharanam adiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan Mukundan Vangkipuram Pattangi ------------------------ Yahoo!
