Kshetram, nadhi (river), sindhu (sea), vanam (forest), pushkarani, puram and vimanam are the seven punya vasthus. This Divya Desam is the one that has all these seven entities. They are as follows:
Kshetram ?
Nadhi ? Kaveri
Sindhu ? Thirumalarayapatnam (Eastern sea shore) kadal karai
Vanam ? KrishnAranyam
Pushkarani ? Nitya Pushkarani
Puram ? Krishnapuram
Vimanam ? UtpalAvataka vimanam
One among the five
Adding to the link of seven punya vasthus, the eighth important thing about Perumal is the link to the greatest mantram told in all Vedas. It is the thirumantram. There are eight svayamvyakta Kshetrams. They are Salagramam, Badri, NaimichAranyam, Pushkaram, ThiruVenkatadam, SriMushnam, Vanamamalai and Srirangam. Each letter in the AshtAkshara matram refer to each of the above Perumals. Sowrirajan is very special by the fact that He refers to the complete AshtAkshara mantram. This is the eighth specialty of this Divya Desam. This Perumal is referred even in Vishnu Sahasranamam. The 649th name in Sahasranamam is Sowri. A gandharva king called as uparicharavasu worshipped this Perumal. He was also worshipped by Dhantaka maharishi. The entire paddy field in this Divya Desam was none but rishis who were worshipping Perumal. They were not interested in their body (meaning able to differentiate between atma and body). Hence, this vimanam is known as UtpalAvataka (utpalA refers to body. The entire word conveys the fact that there is no desire for body) vimanam.
Let us continue enjoying the vaibhavam of this Perumal in the following postings in this series.
