Subject: HOW AZWARS HAVE USED THE NUMBERS

Dear Bhagavathars,
Adiyen would like to refer to the Pasurams where they have used the numbers from 1 to 10 and what they conveyed is
thought provoking.

1. Almost all Azwars have used this number 1 as muDal Vithu, muDalvane, munnaVane etc  and  umpteen times and  in
different places  they have used which does not require separate mention. Oru Alilliyil pallikondan has been used by all Alwars. Thirumangai Azwar in his Thiruvezukutrikkai stars with Oru Perunthi (from the Lord Narayana all are born) and ends his Pasuram with Ninadi panivene.

2. It will be clear from Thiruvezikaikutrarrikai that the Azwar has used "Irupirappu Oru MaNaGi" . He says the Lord
Narayana disguised Himself as a dwarf brahmin , by hiding ThayAr in HIS chest duly covered with deers skin.

3 The same line Muppuri NooloDu - which refers to the thread being worn by a brahamachari who was NARAYANA HIMSELF
as VAMANA AVATHARAM with a begging bowl and kamandalam.. Aram Porul Inbam is the other expressions used by Azwars.
It is common to note OM Shanthi,Om Shanthi, Om Shanthi is almost used.

4. Vedam NanGu, IynDu Velvi, anGam Aru, Isai Ezhu (Peria Thirumozhi 6.7.7
This one Pasuram itself explains the number 4 to 7. Thiruvezikutririkkai explains the number 1 to 7 which represents Temple Chariot and
he has dealt with it very well.
     Vedam - Yajur,Sama,Atharvana & Rig
Iyndu Velvi - Prithvi, appu, Agasam, Thejas, Vayu
Angamaru - Seechai, Viyagaranam, Santhas, knruktham, Jyothisham, Kalppam./ Gnanam, Balam,Ishvaryam, veeryam & Shakthi is other six referred to.
     Isai Ezu - Ezhu Swarangal
Thirumangai Mannan has covered all these numbers upto 7 and let us see which Azwars has given importance to the numbers in their Pasurams.

4 & 5 has been used by Thirumazichaipiran in his Thiruchanda Viruttam as:-
      "kulanGalaya Irirandil ondrilum piranthilen
       nalangalaya nanarkalaigal nalilum navindrilen
pulangal Iynthum vendrilen porielen punitha nin
ilangupatha mandri matror patrilen em esaney"                   Pasuram 90

1,2,3,4 & 5 has been used in his first Pasuram itself.

    "Poonilaya Iyndumai punarKan  nindra Nangumai
     Theenilaya Moondrumai sirantha kal irandumai
     MeenilayathorndumaGi veru veru thanmayai
      Neenilaya vannam ninnai yar ninaikavallarey"

5. In Moondram Thiruvandathi Peiazwar mentions in Pasruam 12 which reads like this.
    "arivennum Thalkoluvi Iympunalum thamil
    serivennumThinkaDavam seMi marieNum
    nanGothi nanGuNarVar KanBare NalDorum
    PynGothavaNanpadi."

1,2 & 3 has been  use by Thirumangai Mannan in his Peria Thirumozhi as given below:

"Oru kuralai Iru nilam Moovadi Mann Vendi
      Ulaganithum EradialoDukki onrum
      tharugavena Mavaliai siriel vaitha
      ThaDalan ThalaNaiveer"

Now let us go from 6 to 10.
The best quote is from the E-book 98 & 105 and almost 6 & 7 has been covered in E-book 98.
7. Great Rivers.I quote from E-book 98
"Ganga cha Yamuna chaive Godhavaree Saraswathi
Narmada Sindhu Kaveri jalesmin snmidam kuru"
Vishnu Puranam mentions about 7 mountains as
"Mahendro Malaya Sahya Suktiman Riksha parvata
Vindyascha Paariyaatrascha Sajota atra Kula Paravatta"
Thirupanazwar in his Amalanathipran mentions as
"AnDarandapaGiranDathu oru Manilam ezumal varai ..... Pasuram 6
In Thiruchand Viruttam 79 there is a reference

8. ETTezuthu OthuVargal vallarVanaMalave is the reference by Thirumazichaipiran in his Pasuram 77 Thiruchandaviruttam followed
by adigarasangrigam 45 . No one would have covered this no 8 other than Desigar whcih explains very well.
"EttuMa Moorthy yenKaNan eN thiKu eTiray eN prugRuthi eTuMavariGal EnDra veN GuNaThon
ettuNuMenn GuNaMayorKu eTuMamalar eNsithi eNpathi etuYoGanGam eN selvam
eTuMaGunaM eTTeNum kalai eTiratha Melathuvum eTinave

7,8 & 1 has been coverd by Thirumangai Mannan in his Pasuram 3.4.1 which is like this:
"eN DisaiGalum EzulaGamum Vangi Ponvitrril paithu
     panDu Oraliliyil paLikonDavan PalMathikku eDarthirthavan
     OnthiraluNavuNarathukir vaithavan OLeytrodu
     ThiNkaimathuar Thirthavan ThiruvenGadam aDai nenJey"

9 & 10
In Thiruchandaviruttam Pasuram 79 there is a mention  of 10,7 & 9 which  is like this:

    " pathinodu pathumai Orezinodu  OronBathai
pathinal Disai kaN ninDra Nadu petra nanmial
     pathinal Thotramodu OraTral   miKa Athipal
     pathaMavarkalathu muthi mutralagume"

Here the Azwar clearly mentions that HE is the Antharyami of 10 Dikvijars. There are 7 swarngals with 9 navarasams.
In each He is the SWAMI  is the ultimate fact.

If there is any mistake in the quote from Sanskrit slokas it is entirely mine and adiyen is responsible and request the Bagawathars to
excuse me.

adiyen,
nochalur seshadri sampath.
