Hi Kalaivani,

With response to your question,

The above episode appears in Vishnu Purana. If you logically look at it, all that happens is only bhagavan's leela. Therefore the whole swayamvaram, etc was only a leela by bhagavan. The Lord's leelas sometimes cannot be understood by us.

Bear in mind that the eternal relationship between perumal and thayar has always been there. The Purusha Suktha which is one of the oldest vedic hymns uphold the lord and his consorts as follows:

" hreescha te lakshmischa patnyau "

Hri ( modesty) and Sri ( prosperity) are your consorts - Hri refers to Bhudevi Thayar and Sri Refers to Lakshmi ( there are deeper meanings and eulogies in view of Lakshmi concept - there is much information on thayar in Lakshmi tantra of Pancharatra Agama Sastra).

FYI according to most sources of authority, the vedas were ever existing, way before the puranas aand ithihasas and so the Purusha Suktha verse is enough evidence to confirm the eternal relationship of God and his consort.

Puranas are generally taken with a pinch of salt.Pramanam is always Shruti(vedas/Upanishads) ,Brahmasutras and Bhagavad Gita. As a supplement to the prasthana thrayam we accept Pancharatra Agama and Vaikhanasa Agama as other sources( two authoratative Vaishnava Agamas extolled by Sri Vedanta Desika). In essence, the view held by us Sri Vaishnavas is that Parabrahman is Lakshmi-Narayana swaroopam( backed by Vedas and Agamas)Therefore have no doubts or confusion .

Best Wishes,

Haresh

p.s: Sri MK pls add on to what adiyen has said if possible to make it clearer.Thanks.
