Respected Swamin: I had an opportunity to hear about an old dilapidated temple of Sri Ranganathar. I wish to share my experiences with you. The temple is situated near Vadalur In between Vadalur and Cuddalore there is a place called KURINJIPADI. From Kurinijipadi this Venkatampettai village is about four kilometers. Once upon a time this should have been a very big temple. The front gopurams are in bad shape. There is tallest pillar standing in front of the temple reminding us of a unjal mandapam at the entrance of the temple. A very big idol of Lord Ranganathar is there. His nose, lips, eyes are so beautiful , so that we could not move our eyes away from him. His length is about 25? and adiseshan on which he is lying is having SEVEN HOODS(at Srirangam & other divyadesams and other places adiseshan has only five hoods). The other moolavar idols of thayar, Narasimhar are placed in the front portion as the sannidhis have given away. There is a sannidhi for Venuugopalan . But the beautiful idol is broken due to the fall of roof. There is a thayar sannidhi. It is believd that there is a treasure inside the ground and it is protected by bees(vandu). That opening is covered by a slab.It is learnt that gentleman from German is taking steps to renovate it. But if early steps are taken we will be blessed to have another beautiful Ranganathar temple. But I personally feel that these temples will have orginal shape only when our acharyas and matathipathis visit the temple and take with them the devotees and philanthropists. Further there are hundreds of temples in our Tamilnadu in similar conditions. Hence I personally feel that instead of constructing new temples and giving more funds to the rich temples they can concentrate on these beautiful temples. I may be excused for expressing my desire and views. with regards rajagopala dasan -rajagopalan __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
