The children in old times had problems with lice and other nuisances. Clean shaving helped to address that . There is a Vaidhika karma which is known as Chowlam , one of the 40 Vaidhika Samskarams for a young child. This should be done. That is once in a life time. Hair is a mark of beauty. Sacrificing that and casting it aside is a sincere as well as symbolic display of casting of ahankAram and egotism as well as bodily pride. It is meant well .It is however not necessary for those , who need to have Sikhai (Tuft) for performance of their duties. Our merciful Lord standing on top of the Seven hills would welcome a petal of flower or TuLasi prsented to him with sincere bhakthi. Most of all , He would relish the flower of Your heart placed at His feet seeking His rakshaNam thru SaraNAgathi . Rest of the submisisons are trivia. By the way , the wig industry depending on the hair left overs s a big thing and enriches the Barbers , who have to work overtime there. I would do angapradhakshiNam around His PrAkAram instead and have a samarpaNam in the UNDI for good causes ; those KaaNikkais are used to run hospitals, release ancient SrI Sookthis, administer a University , daily AarAdhanams , Veda /Dhivya prabhnadha PaarAyaNam and the like.
