Dear Bhagavathas,

Wednesday Mar. 28th, 2007(Panguni- Pushyam) is the 100th
Thirunakshtram day  (Sathamaana Uthsavam) of one of the greatest luminary and
distinguished AchAryA of Srirangam Srimath Andavan
PeriAsramam, Srimath Thirukkudanthai Andavan ? Sri
vEdAntha rAmAnuja mahA dEsikan, who took Srirangam
Srimath Andavan periAsramam to dizzy heights of growth
spreading it literally across length and breadth of
the country.

Adiyen is reproducing my earlier postings done a few
years ago on the life history of this mahAn commencing
with the first volume today. This has been
compiled from Panguni Pushyam malar(1981) during 74th
birthday celebrations of H.H. Srimath Thirukkudanthai
Andavan(Kannan swamigal) and Andavan Asramam varalaru
published in 1967 by Srirangam pEriAsramam.

Let us all recite this mahan's thaniyan on His
thirunakshatram day.

Among all the Alwars, Thirumangai Alwar also known as
Kaliyan is the one who has sung praises on most of the
archAvatArAs of the 108 Divya dEsams. All of his
?AruLicheyalgaLs? are considered to be a treasure of
tamil literature and also as the essence of vEda.

Such a great AlwAr when experiencing thirukkudanthai
emperumAn, is trying to sing praise of the beauty, the
importance and the significance of emperumAn?s
padukas. But he is not able to do it. The AlwAr who
performed ?sarvAttha grahaNam? at the feet of
emperumAn feels very despondent at his inability to
do so and surrenders at the feet of the Lord. In one
of his pAsurams, kaliyan describes both emperumAn?s
great virtues and his inadequacy to experience such
virtues..

? Moovaril mudhalvanAya oruvanai ulagam konda
KOvinai kudanthai mEya kurumaNith thiraLai
Inbap pAvainai pachchaith thEnai paimponnai amarar
Sennip
Poovinai pughazhum thondar ensollip pugazhvar
thAmE?.?

Kaliyan is awe struck to find words and sing praise of
ArAvamudhan. As AzhwAr says, ?PonnAr sArngamudaiya
adigaLai innArenru ariyEn?, it wasn?t surprising at
all seeing the towering stature of Amudhan, kaliyan
got totally mesmerised admiring emperumAn?s thiru
uruvam. Kaliyan feels very helpless not able to drink
mAdhuryAmrutham of emperumAn that flowed from kuda
mooku.

In the same vein, it is impossible for one to sing
praise of Srimath Thirukkudanthai Andavan?s divya
charitham because of his immeasurable greatness. It
prompts one to think that Thirukkudanthai Srimath
Andavan was a manifestation of emperumAn?s mAdhuryam
and all His kalyanA gunAs and hence took birth in the
sannidhi of Amudhan to protect loka bhagavathas.

AvatAram

Srimath Thirukkudanthai Andavan was in the born in a
small hamlet called ? kArukudi?( situated next to
Thirukkandiyur in Tanjore district) in the banks of
river KavEri in the year 1908 to Sri. U.Ve.
PadmanAbhachAriar and Sri. Komalavalli dEvi. He was
born on the auspicious day of pushyam in the month of
Panguni. The signs were very auspicious at the time of
His birth.

His father was a parama EkAnthi and had full belssings
of his AchAryA. He used to visit Srirangam periAsramam
regularly to participate in the pArAyana ghoshti of
AchArya Thirunakshtra mAhOtsavams . At that time,
Srimath kAdandEthi Andavan was adorning the AchArya
peetam of the periAsramam. He was a great mahAn who
was an exponent of yogic sAstrAs, and posessed all the
divine mAntric powers. A mahAn who had the full and
direct blessings of Lord Sri HayagreevA.

It was in the year 1907 during the mAsi-pushyam
thirunakshatram celebrations of Srimath periAndavan,
Sri. U.Ve. padmanAbhAchAriAr and Sri. U.Ve. Eyunni
varadAchAr swAmi( who later became Srimath
NammAndavan) had visited periAsramam. After the
completion of vaibhavam, they had stayed for a couple
of more days to take part in the nithya kainkarayam.
One of those days during the evening time, Srimath
kAdanthEthi Andavan called for both of them and told
Sri. PadmanAbhAchAr swAmi that he will have a son who
will be born on a pushyam day and told Sri.
VaradAchAr swAmi that he will also have a son who will
be born on a hastham day. As predicted by swAmi, both
of them had sons born on the same janma nakshatrams.
