Very nice! Though I am a hebbar Iyengar born and raised in Bangalore, my passion grew more and more as I grew up, to listen to Swamigal's fascinating discourses filled with great analogies and pun-laiden jokes. I did not want to miss any of his lectures. On the side I picked up good tamil, and was motivated to learn to read Tamil, so that I could read articles in Sri Ranganatha Paduka! I would like to share one of things that I heard during the Ramayanam discourses by Sri Swamigal in Malleshwaram, Bangalore, either in the late 60's or early 70's. In one of the discourses, Swamigal started explaining the recipe of rasam, and at the end, he said if you do all this with "neriya taan (vegetables)" it won't be rasam any more! With this as the prelude, he brought out the point he wanted to make: There is a dispute about whether bhakti can be considered as one of the "rasa"s. There is no need for that dispute! In whatever I would do for Bhagavan thinking that "I" am doing the kainkaryam with bhakti, that rasam will not be there, since there is "taan" (ego). anda rasalabdhi, "taan" illaame irundaal taan mudiyum!
