Dear Shri.Sadagopan Swamy,

adiyen dandan

adiyen had the opportunity to go through your recent posting "The Sunny Azhwar". It has been a very great anubhavam reading through that posting. Devareer had given a very great elaboration of the 4th sloka of "Paraankusa Ashtakam" - a collection of 8 great slokas on Nammalwar. The slokam described by devareer is very important andhas immense meanings and inner meanings in it, which have been clearly brought out by devareer in that posting.

Adiyen has been reading through some of davareer's postings and devareer's unique way of making the members read through the postings with attractive headings and elaborate descriptions. Indeed devareer's postings are very lucid and are easily understandable. Adiyen hopes all the members would spend some time to go through the very lucid and clear postings of devareer and would benefit from the same.

Indeed there is another slokam in this "Paraankusa Ashtakam" which also attracts adiyen.

It is the 8th slokam in the "Parankusa Ashtakam" -

"Namajjanasya Sitthapitthi Bhakthi chitra thoolikaa

Bhavaahi veerya panjchanae naraendra mantra yantranaa

Prapanna loka kairavaa prasanna chaaru chandrikaa

Satari hasta muthrikahataathu nothu mae tama:"

Adiyen somewhat triedto express the Sanskrit slokam in English. Adiyen would like to give the broad meaning of the above slokam.

The slokam describes the hasta mudra of Nammaahwar. (devotees who had been to Thirukkurugoor - Azhwarthirunagari Nammaazhwar Temple would be able to appreciate the right hand mudra position of Azhwar - others can see the hasta mudra of azhwar in "http://www.ramanuja.org/sv/alvars/index.html" or in

http://nammalwar.tripod.com/nammalwar.html- the latter one also deals with Azhwaar Nava Thiruppathigal ? nine divya desams). The hasta muthrika- hasta mudra of Nammaazhwar is the brush which paints bhakti in the walls ofthe hearts of the devotees (prapannas) who follow him (bhakti chitra thoolika - thoolika = brush;writing instrument).

It is the medicinal pill / powder of the specialist doctor who removes poison, the poison being the one injected into the prapannas by the snake of samsaaram.

It is the moon which makes the 'ambal(Tamil)' flowers (flower blossoms in night) blossom. The pranannas are likened to these flowers waiting for the moon to come as these flowers blossom in the night.

This hasta muthrika of sataari (Nammaazhwar) bless adiyen and remove adiyen's ignorance.

The above meaning is broad and indicative only. Adiyen is not a proficient but just tried to share adiyen's anubhavam in this slokam. Also this slokam is very rhythmic to recite.

This slokam is the ninth slokam of "Nakshathra Maalikaa" stothram written by Jeeyar Naayanaar in praise of Nammaazhwaar. "Nakshathra Maalikaa" itself is a unique literary work.

Also in devareer's posting point No.3 it could be ?Tirumalirumsolaimalai endrEn, enna, Tirumal vanduen nenju niraya pugundAn? instead of ?Tirumalirumsolai endrEn, enna, Tirumal vandu en nenju niraya pugundAn?  Thiruvaimozhi 10- 8-1). It is said that when Azhwar called ?Tirumalirumsolaimalai" Thirumal came and resided in his heart and He then also goes to "Then Thirupperai", near Trichy. Elders say that azhwar praises the Tirumalirumsolai hill so much that it is given a very great importance by him. Also 8th pasuram in "Senchorkavigaal" - Thiruvaimozhi 10-7-8).

Also devareer touchedupon "Achaarya Hridayam". For the benefit of some devotees who may not be aware of this work - this work is by Azhaghiya Manavaala Perumal Naayanaar and is made up of sutras / prose. This work deals in detail about the purpose of Azhwaar's birth, his greatness, his inner feelings and what he conveys by his works.

Please pardon adiyen if there are any mistakes in the above write up.
