nam-piLLai
In the earlier postings it was seen that swAmi nampiLLai had explained
regarding adjectives, examples and real-life events. SwAmi also explains
menaings of words or terms, in two or three different ways, whenever
multiple interpretations are possible. Further, swAmi also refers to
interpretations by taimil scholars then and
there.
One instance in the following
pAsuram:
"madhuvAr thannan thuzhAiAn
mudhu vEdha
mudhalvanukku,
edhuvE enpaNi
ennAdhu,
adhuvE At cheiiyum EdE"
1-6-2
The preceding pAsuram -1-6-1 of
thiru voi mozhi ends with the term"purivadhuvum pugai
pUvE" which means the next pAsuram -thiru voi mozhi being thiru andhAdhi-
should commence with the syllable "va" "vA" and so on.
However, it is seen the next
pAsuram commences with the word "madhuvAr".
For this Edu is reproduced
here: " 'purivadhuvum pugai pUvE ' enRadhu kEzh; idhil ' madhuvAr thannan
thuzhAyAn'
enRu thodangiRru; idhu sERumpadi en
enna; "pUvAgil madhuvOdE kUdiallAdhirAmaiyAlE, sErum"
enRu solluvar thamizhar.
Though, the words may not strictly
comply with andhAdhi, the meaning of the term 'pU' is brought forth as the
beginning of the next pAsuram. How? 'pU' meaning flower is always with the
nectar-madhu. This is being construed as the beginning of the next pAsuram
linking the chain in the andhAdhi scenario. This, swAmi nam-piLLai mentions as
being mentioned by tamil-scholars-enRu solluvar thamizhar.
However, swAmi nam-piLLai
also spells out another interpretation. "vadhuvAr thannan
thuzhAiyAn" enRu pAdamAna pOdhu, pOrach
chErum.vadhuvai enbadhu manam; Ardhal enbadhu pUrNam; ...naRu nARRathaiyudaiya
thuzhAi enRumAm. idhu thamizhar pOrach chErum
enbar.
If the word is understood as
"vadhuvAr" the meaning would be good-scented thuzhAi.
Which is also the meaning of the last term of the preceding pAsuram. Further,
the words have been adopeted from the final term of the
preceding pAsuram -puri-vadhuvum pugai
pUvE.
Hence, this being both cogent with
the meaning and word of the final term of the prevous pAsuram, this is being
greatly appreiated by the tamil-scholars.
This kind of multiple
interpretations and referrence to tamil-scholars is replete in Edu. In 'sonnAl
virOdhamidhu' thiru voi mozhi 3-9 this can be seen in several
pAsuram-s.
