Dear All,

aDiyEn would like to touch up on some of the anubhavams of Kaliyan on Krishnan. It will look little odd to combine Kaliyan and Kannan when compared to the anubhavam of Periyazhwar, Andal and Nammazhwar on Kannan. ADiyEn would like to draw reference form 3 Divya Desams from Kaliyan?s pasurams.

Periyazhwar starts with the birth of Kannan in Thirukkoshtiyur. Since the Goshti discussion on Kannan?s avataram happened there, Azhwar decided to call that as the place of birth. Kaliyan, on the other hand is a great sishyan of Thirukkanapuram Sowrirajan. He learnt the meaning of Ashtakshara mantram from Sowrirajan. He spoke about the birth of Krishnan in one of his pasurams on Sowrirajajan. Here is it,

thanNdhai kaalil vilaNGgaRavanNdhu thONnRiya thONnRalpiNn, thamiyENnRaNn

Let us look into Azhwar?s anubhavam of Kannan when singing on his favourite Thirunaraiyur Nambi,

uRiyaar veNNe yuNdura lOdum kattuNdu, veRiyaar koonthal pinnai poruttuAn venRaanoor, poRiyaar maNYNYai poompozhil thORum nadamaada, naRun aaN malarmEl vaNdisai paadum naRaiyoorE

Kaliyan discusses about Kannan?s mischievous activity in the above pasuram. He was eventually tied to the ural (mortar). Incidentally, Yasodha is the only blessed soul of all the times to have tied both 'akAram' and 'AkAram' . He discusses about Kannan's stealing activity in Siriya Thirumadal,

cheeraar thayir kadaindhu veNNai thiraNdadhaNai vEraar nudhal madavaaL vErOr kalaththittu naaraaruriyERRi nankamayayaiththathanai pOraar vErkaNmatavaaL pOndhanaiyumpoyyurakkam Oraadhavanpol uraNgiyarivuRRu thaaraar thadanthoLgaL uLLaLavum kaineettii 32 aaraadha veNNaivizhuNgi -- arukirundha mOraar kudamurutti munkidandha thaanaththE

Kanna always likes things in natural form. He does not like butter milk. He likes butter and strong curd. After eating the butter He just rolls out the vessel with butter milk. He feels very happy to hear the noise of that rolling vessel.

Azhwar says that Kannan, as a kid did not know that he cannot get more butter just because he can try to insert more of his hand in the pot. He could get butter only to the length of his small hand. He immediately pretends as if he is sleeping after doing all the mischievous activity of stealing butter and rolling the pots.

Let us look at the anubhavam of KrishnAvatAram in Srirangam Perumal (Unique for Him in terms of number of pasurams, 50).

Kaliyan talks about some unique aspect in KrishnAvatAram,

?mAgam mAnilam muzhutum vandhirainjum?.?

KrishnAvatAram was the only avatAram where all the kinds of souls have done kaimkaryam to Perumal.

mAgam refers to Nityasuris. Adhi Seshan did kaimkaryam immediately after Kanna was born. He acted as the umbrella, when Kannan was carried by Vasudevar to Gokulam.

mAnilam refers to the bhadhAtmAs ? This is very obvious. Vidhura, the Gopikas an people in AyarpAdi have done kaimkaryam to Him in some way or other.

muzhuthum ? refers to Devas. Indran did kaimkaryam and surrendered at the feet of Perumal to protect him.

aDiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan,

ramanan
