Dear All :

(VeNugOpAlan) playing on the flute on the banks
of the river YamunA . The salutation takes the form :

Meaning and Commentaries
***********************************
This slOkam is a summary of the 21st Chapter
of the Dasama skandham of Srimath BhAgavatham.
PeriyAzhwAr was inspired by the slOkams of this
21st Chapter and composed his beautiful Paasurams
that extoll the greatness of the Lord's VeNu GhAnam
and its impact on all those who expeienced it .

The magic of KrishNa's flute sounding in the glens
and dales of BrindhAvanam during the autumn season
is described in this chapter of Dasama Skandham .
The VeNu music was love-inspiring to the Vraja women .
They recalled the beauty of the limbs of their Lord adorning
a peacock feather as a plume in His hair , KarnikAra
flowers as a decoration in one of His ears , Vyjayanthi
maalai around His shoulders and filling the holes of His
divine flute with the nectar from His mouth that His Devis
long for . The cattle , the trees and the Gopis who
heard this divine VeNu Naadham were in a state of
blissful trance . The cows and the calves stood
pinned to the spot and shed tears of joy . The birds
perched on the closest branches to drink in the beauty
of the Lord engaged in playing the flute . The waters of
Yamuna stood still . The clouds provided shade for
their Lord as they stopped their movement .

Leelaa Sukhar enjoys the VeNu GhAnam of
the Lord in many of the KrishNa KarNAnrutha
slOkams and this slOkam is one of them .

The Flute playing son of NandagOpan
***********************************************
The key words of this slOkam are :
" BrundhAvana sucharitham NandagOpAla-
soonum (aham) vandhE "  ( adiyEn prostrates
before the son of NandagOpAlan , who delights in
roaming in the forests of BrundhAvanam herding
the cattle and playing His flute) .

The rest  of the slOkam visualizes VeNugOpAlan
standing in the PrathyAleeDam pose with one ankle
crossing over the other ( vyathyastha angrim) and
alternately opening and closing the holes of
His flute (  muktha-samruddha randhram) with
the tips of His rosy red fingers resembling
the rising sun at dawn (aruNa kiraNai:
angulyagrai: ) to fill the flute with the air
from His mouth ( vENum vadhana marutha:
Aapoorayantham) . His beautiful eyes at
the time of His flute playing were captivating
and wide like  fully blossomed lotus flowers
( vikacha kamalacchAya visthAra nEthram) .

LeelA Sukhar  offers his salutations to this
MangaLa VeNugOpAla Murthy enchanting
the residents of BrundhAvanam with His
divine VeNu ghAnam .
