Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer,

Continuing on that naama 'neeraja nayanaayai namah', why suddenly switching over to seethaa, is not only on that raamaa saying 'my seethaa is having lotus eyes' etc, but hanumaan says 'seethaa is lakshmee' and 'whatever way raama is, in the same way seethaa is also there'. That is the main reason for switching over to seethaa -- see 2 slokams -- plus more points - see below –

asyaa dhEvyaa yathaa roopam anga prathyanga soushThavam |

raamasya cha yathaa roopam thasya iyam asitha eekshaNaa || 5-15-51

meaning: hanumaan on seeing seethaa says to himself, "In whatever way is this lady's appearance, elegance of major and minor limbs, in the same way is Raama's. In whatever way His appearance, in the same way is this black-eyed one's appearance."

asyaa dhEvyaa manah thasmim thasya cha asyaam prathishThitham |

thEna iyam sa cha dharma aathmaa muhoortham api jeevathi || 5-15-52

meaning: This lady's heart is in Raama, His heart is firmly in Her, for that reason She and that noble Raama are able to live even for a moment [in separation]."

Point: even though the younger one lakshmaNa is by the side without thinking about his wife, why raama was weeping for separation from seethaa is this, that the hearts of both are exchanged with each other - conveyed to us by hanumaan – that teacher – guru – for he only knows these so clearly.

Now, why that 'kalasa vaaridhim' krithi in raagam 'rathnaangee' is – see slokam – hanumaan says she is like 'nava hema sriyam' or 'new gold' kanaka and aadhi lakshmee for thyaagaraaja - see slokam of raamaayaNam and charaNam of krithi together --

thaam dhrishTvaa nava hEma aabhaam lOka kaanthaam iva sriyam |

jagaama manasaa raamam vachanam cha idham abraveeth || 5-16-6

meaning: hanumaan on seeing that Seethaa with the radiance of new gold, like the goddess Lakshmi, delightful to the world, went by mind [or heart] to Sri Raama spoke these words also.

CharaNam of krithi:

kamaneeya jaya dhana dhaanya roopaam

kanaka aadhi dhairya lakshmee svaroopaam

kamalaam mahaa santhaana roopaam

kamala aalayaam thyaagaraaja mOksha pradhaam [or roopaam] [ kalasa]

points:

1.      why 'mOksha pradhaam' in the krithi – is it that thyaagaraaja going to get mOksham only after singing this krithi – no sirs.

2.      [I am not entering into that point whether he got moksham or not since he has not done saranagathy etc which was a major point discussed some time back in the e mail lists. And that is not of interest to me. Also, I make it clear I was not a party in such discussions].

3.      As I usually say while writing about thyaagaraaja krithis, thyaagaraaja connects the krithis to incidents in raamaayaNam so nicely. Here, hanumaan is going to get liberation – for he was just then thinking about all bad things like he will be the main reason for all the death of raama, raama's brothers, all people of ayodhyaa, hanuman's king sugreeva, all vaanaraas etc, once he fails in his mission of 'search and locate seethaa'.

4.      Now he is seeing that seethaa – so success in his mission – thereby gets his liberation – freedom from that trouble - of 'not locating' seethaa and be thereby the cause of death of all etc. For he has seen her – identified her – yes – in that way he got relief from that trouble of not locating her – liberation - so 'mOksha pradhaam', for she is the one to give that relief by showing herself up ante.

5.      now why that raagam 'rathnaangee' – again as I usually say, the raagam selection by thyaagaraaja is also great and connected to raamaayaNam incidents.

6.      see here – hanumaan recollects about the jewels of seethaa and the cloth in which she threw the jewels – rathnam and angi – together rathnaangee [which sugreeva and hanumaan collected and then showed to raama] now the same cloth she is wearing and some jewels about which raama spoke to these two sugreeva and hanumaan – hanumaan recollects those and compares with what seethaa looks like - see vaalmeeki's slokam

vaidhEhyaa yaani cha angeshu thadhaa raamO anvakeerthayath |

thaani aabharaNa jaalaani gaathra sObheeni alakshayath || 5-15-41

sukrithou karNa vEshTou cha svadhamshTrou cha susamsthhithou |

maNi vidhruma chithraaNi hasthEshu aabharaNaani cha || 5-15-42

syaamaani chira yukthathvaath thathhaa samsthaanavanthi cha |

meaning: Then Hanumaan saw whatever groups of jewellery of Seethaa on various parts [of body] Raama spoke, those charming Her limbs, well made earrings, well fitting Svadamshtraas and ornaments wonderful with diamonds on the limbs of Her hands, belonging to body for long time, blackened and making marks on body.

thaani Eva Ethaani manyE aham yaani raamO anvakeerthayath || 5-15-43

thathra yaani avaheenaani thaani aham na upalakshaye |

yaani asyaa na avaheenaani thaani imaani na samsayaH || 5-15-44

meaning: "I think all these to be same about which Raama spoke; among them whatever have been worn out those I will not see; whatever jewels of Her are not worn out these are they - no doubt."

peetham kanaka paTTa aabham srastham thadh vasanam subham |

uththareeyam naga aasaktham thadhaa dhrishTam plavamgamaih || 5-15-45

meaning: That upper garment yellow with a shine like a golden plate, auspicious one, being dropped had been seen caught in a tree then by vaanaraas.

So raagam is rathnaangee. Is it not great from thyaagaraaja, dear raama bhakthaas you have to say.

Since length of post applies brake let us continue in next,

Dhasan
