srImathE rAmAnujAya namaha
Dear Baghavatas,
Thanks to many bhAgavatAs adding bhagavAn namas in
tiruppAvai to make satha ashtotra. adiyEn has neither authority nor
qualification to make it a nAmAvaLi. This is just to identify various
gunas that andAl has used to praise the lord. When we prefix with pranavam
and suffix with namaha, it becomes nAmAvaLi.
Sometime back Sriman Sudharshan Swamin of
Kuwait, had written a splendid explanation about the word "kim". When
Yudhishtra asks 6 questions, enquiring "kim"
1. kim Ekam daivatam lokE : Who is
the supreme god
2. kim vAp Ekam parAyanam : Who is the only
abode
3. stuvantah kim : Who is the god tobe
praised (worshipped)
4. kim archantha prApnuyur mAnava subham : By
praising whom, human beings will obtain subham.
5. kO dharma sarva dharmAnam : Of all
dharmAs, which is the supreme dharmA
6. kim jappan mUchyatE jantuh janma samsAra
bandhanAth : By meditating on who, the living beings come out of this samsaric
cycle.
Ironically, our temple in pluit, jakarta is
also guarded by person named "Kim". I understand from Badri mama thathe
though being a muslim is a strict vegetarian.
For this Bhisma pitAmakar starts replying that
"jagad prabum, deva devam, anantham, purushottamam, stuvan namah sahasrEna
purusha sathata uttitaha" Hearing this, Yudishtra starts looking up and
enquiring himself where is HE. Bhisma concludes "HE is just sitting
near to you and HE is dEvaki nandana". Finally, these sahasra
nAmAs are "yAni nAmAni gounAni". The thousand names of Lord (sahasra
nAmam), each nAmA represent a gunA of the Lord. It was my bhAgyam to hear
the upanyAsams of Swami Vellukudi Krishnan on tiruppAvai and prays for Swamin's
anugraham. adiyEn shall try to post some of Swamin's anubhavam on
tiruppAvai and nAmA (guna) of the Lord.
Hence, namA represents gunA of the Lord. The
basic gunAs of the Lord (word bhagavAn means having six gunAs) gnanam, sakthi,
veeryam, aiswaryam, tejas, balam and our Lord has anantha kalayana gunas in
addition like dayA, soulabyam, sowseelyam, et al. That's why one of the
Lord's nAmA is "nambi", which means guna paripoornan (emodiment of satva
gunAs). Let us try to relate each of the below mentioned nAmA to his
gunA. adiyEn request the enlighted people to correct my mistakes and shall
be blessed to stand corrected.
