maRRellAm
pEAsilum
Having seen that swAmi nam-AzhwAr-s
explains the meaning of thiru-mandhiram whenever 'thiru-mandhiram' is mentioned,here is one such
pAsuram:
One of such pAsuram-s
is:
"orAyiramAi vulagEazh
aLikkum ..
nArAyaNan nangaL pirAn
avanEa" 9-3-1;
In the above pAsuram nArAyana sabtham is
spelt out.
In the very next pAsuram the meaning is
explained:
"avanEa agal gnAlam
padithidandhAn, avanEA akgdhEa vuNdum vumizhndhAn,
avanEa avanum avanum
avanum, avanEa maRRellAmum aRindhanamEA" .
kEzh pAttil nArAyaNa sabtham
prasthutham AgaiyAlEa adhan arthathai panni vuraikkiRar
idhil.
Since, nArAyana sabtham is mentioned in
the preceding pAsuram the meaning is given in this
pAsuram.
Further, the ultimate meaning of
'thriu-mandhiram' is clearly spelt out in the eighth ten -thirukkaNNapuram -
"... vuRRadhum vun
adiyArku adimai-maRRellAm pEAsilum nin thiru ettezhuthum kaRRu nAn kaNNa
purathuRai ammAnEA" 8-10-3 of periya-thiru-mozhi.
The thirumandhiram gives out five
important meanings.
1. praNavathil -
chEthana swarUpathaium i.e. the nature of the soul;
2. namassAlEa
-virOdhi
3.upAya swarUpam
i.e. in the namas the nature of hurdles and the nature of
means;
4. nArAyaNa
padathAlEa- nature of the Lord Almighty;
5. chadhurthiyAlEa-
nature of purushartham i.e the nature of the goal and
Since, all the aformentioned meanings are
condensed in thriumandhiram all the meanings which one has to acquire is in
this
pAsuram which is also aptly quoted by
swAmi piLLai lOkAchAryA in mumUkshupadi.
However, notwithstanding this fact, sri
kaliyan over and above all these essential meaning prefers the subservience to
devotees to these five above.
and that is nothing
but
"vuRRadhum vun
adiyArkku adimai"
(to be continued)
