Once, Sibi Chakravarthy of Surya kulam traveled with his war force towards Lanka to kill Ravana. In a forest region called Neelivanam, the king and his people rested for sometime. During that period, the king witnessed an unusual incident. There was a white boar that was running past him. The King chased the boar before it disappeared after entering a
bush. The king, along with his people cleared the bush and saw Sage Markandeya doing penance. He asked the sage about the boar. The sage immediately replied that it was none but Lord Sriman Narayana in Varaha avataram. He instructed the king to build a temple for Perumal in that place and live there forever. The king rightly obliged and built the temple in the hill there, called as SvetaGiri. Also, it is believed that the foot print left by the boar is the place where the pushkarani is present now. Thayar had once performed tapas and asked Perumal that at sometime She should have more authority than Perumal and rule the entire place. Perumal had granted the boon to Thayar in this Divya Desam. This Divya Desam is so special for Thayar that there is a separate village in the name of Thayar, PangayaChelvi. Also, all the properties are in the name of Thayar. To furhter show this aspect to the entire world, there is a separate entrance called "nAzhi kEtta
vAsal". Once, Perumal had gone for a round outside the temple, and returned late. He had to justify that to Thayar before entering the temple. Even during the purappadu, Thayar leads Perumal. The Jeeyar name is called PangayaChelvi Jeeyar.
The great Acharya purusha, UyyakkondAr, also known as PudarikAkshan was born in this Divya Desam. Another mahAn by the name Vishnu Chittar also lived in this Divya Desam. When Swami Ramanujar was working on completing the Sri Bashyam, he could not take help from KurathAzhwan in the final phase as the latter had lost his eyes. Hence, EmPerumAnAr took the help of Vishnu Chittar. Udayar was so pleased that he called Vishnu Chittar as
"EngalAzhwAn".
There is an interesting episode that reflect the main SriVaishnavic attribute. Let us continue that in the next posting,
