SRI:
SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya nama:
Dear Sri Kochappa,

At the outset, please do not despair. No good action and anushtAnam will be waste.
The meaning is to be interpreated as below:

The child generally learns faster; does not argue or question- perhaps due to fear...:-)
Saasthras prescribe the upanayanam to be done at the age of 7:-) garbha ashtamam.. eight years from garbha vaasam- so at the age of 7.

It is preferable to get this done at the latest by 10...
However, if one gets it done say at the age of 18, and is equally keen, interested to follow the anushtAnam and does actually.... it is excellent. It is only told waste... because the teen would be occupied with other thoughts and perhaps be busy with his school works..

Also the mind would ask queries as to why and how... and spend time in them rather than following the anushtAnam... we have all been there.

That is the reason...

Please proceed to get the upnayanam done at the earliest
Please do trikala sandhyavandhanam without fail.
It will take some time in the beginning to get this drilled into your habit...
Then it will take maximum 8-10 minutes for performing one sandhyvanadhanam. Asmadhacharyan His Holiness PaRavakkOttai Andavan Swami used to say: out of 24 hours spend at least 24 minutes for the sandhyavandhanam

Without sandhyavandhanam, a brahmin is not qualified to do anything.
Asmadhacharyan is very emphatic on this on neccessity of Sandhyavandhanam

All Vaishnavites are firm in their understanding of saasthrAs that they

should never abstain from doing the most essential basic nithya karma i.e.
sandhyAvandhanam. This MahAchAryan always advises those who come to the
Ashramam not to leave this nithyakarmA. One who does not do sandhyAvandhanam
and who has stopped doing the same, gets deprived of and disqualified from
doing any vaidIka karma afterwards. He cannot even enter the temple. He has
nithya theettu. He becomes karma chaNDALan. He becomes dirty forever. There
is also a board that pierces our conscience and advises firmly, saying: I
have performed sandhyAvandhanam. Only after performing sandhyAvandhanam, I
am entering into this place This is an excellent strategy (which is
currently being followed in most of first class Management Schools.. as
Leadership covenants.. and Quality Policy etc.. AchAryan has done it by
displaying this board what cannot be done even by saying hundred times, by
letting their conscience speak to him. Kali had promised and assured to
ParIkshit MaharAjan that he will never ever touch those Brahmins who follow
their karmAnushtAnams. Thus, in this way too, Kali has not entered into this
Ashramam..

asmadhAchAryan does not expect any wealth, or money or fruits; nor does
He expect them to be from high lineage, or of high education, etc. All that
He wants from those who prostrate at His Lotus Feet to get His munificent
blessings is: they should be doing trikAla sandhyAvandhanam without fail. If
they say,, Yes. I am doing trikAla sandhyAvandhanam, then He gets really
happy and showers His vailakshaNya kataaksham with paripoorNa aseervAdhams
(fullest Blessings). He also accepts what they offer be they fruits, money
etc. Also He asks them as to what they want the money or materials to be
done with. He spends for the same kaimkaryams, which they desire. He never
enforces His thiruvuLLam on it. If someone does not do trikAla
sandhyAvandhanam, He does not even ACCEPT their offerings. He does not even
see their offerings and asks them to give to some sannidhi (He tells them
without hurting them).

Also He addresses them saying If at all you are coming in future, you
should do sandhyAvandhanam daily without fail. Then I can accept what is
offered. . He does not stop with that. He also gives with his Blessings, a
very simple book which gives in great detail how to do sandhyAvandhanam.
Achamanam and praaNAyAmams are repeated as many times as one needs to do in
a sandhyAvandhanam. There is no need to refer back even. Those who have not
been doing trikAlasandhyAvandhanams for years together will not even be able
to pronounce those words. For these people, He has organized for teaching
them from basics and with meanings
Trust this helps

Respected elders,
Very recently I read in one of our Srivaishnava magaziens (I recall it
is Nrushimhapriya) that all persons belonging to three varnams shall
have yagknowpaveedam (Poonool) and the brahmopadesam has to be done for
a Brahmin boy before his 16th age. Brahmopadesam done beyond that age
for a brahmin boy is a waste. I had mine when I was 18. I know scores
of boys getting the brahmopadesam, even in the samashti upanayanams
conducted by mutts, past the age of 16. If the brahmopadesam conducted
to us beyond the age of 16 is a waste then every cermony/vedic rituals
we perform is also a waste. Then what is the use of we,persons, who had
their brahmopadesam beyond the age of 16 perfoming any rituals? Insted
of doing riutals which will have no utility as we are anyway
ineligible, we can as well say Om Namo Narayana and be done with
everything. Making such absoulte statements that brhamodesam conducted
beyond 16 years for a brahmin boy leaves a permanent doubt in our minds
what use of our doing any rituals honestly when we are unfit to perform
them. Is there any praychitham for those unfortunates who had the
brhamopadesam beyond age 16?
Dasan,
Kochappaa
