Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer,

We are studying vaamana and krishNa avathaarams together. Since lord said that I only came earlier as prsni garbha, second time as vaamana, now third time krishNa, it is more relevant to study both avathaarams together. We stopped in previous post at - the lord appearing in that 4 handed form changing to a dwarf Brahmin boy in front of kasyapa and adhithi.

Can we say vaamana – the braahmaNa vatu appeared in front of vasudhEva and dhEvakee?

It is not wrong if we say that since it is lord's words.

Continuing on vaamana -

tham vaTum vaamanam dhrsTva mOdhamaanaa maharshayah |

karmaaNi kaarayaamaasuh puraskruthya prajaapathim || 8-18- 13

[as already stated 8 is eighth canto or ashtama skandham of sreemadh bhaagavatham, 18 is sargam or chapter number, 13 is slokam number]

TRANSLATION

When the great sages saw the Lord as the brahmachaari - dwarf Vaamana, they were certainly very pleased. They placed him before Kaasyapa Muni, the Prajaapathi, and performed all the ritualistic ceremonies.

Since this vaamana roopa appeared in the form of a 'vatu' or a braahmaNa brahmachaari, His sacred thread ceremony was also performed immediately. Now see the list who all gave what all gifts to vaamana or items offered.

thasya upaneeyamaanasya saavithreem savithaa abraveeth |

brhaspathir brahma-soothram mEhalaam ka syapO~dhadhaath || 8-18-14

TRANSLATION

At the sacred thread ceremony of Vaamana, Soorya, the sun god personally uttered the Gaayathri manthram, Brhaspathi offered the sacred thread, and Kaasyapa Muni offered a straw belt.

dhadhou krishNaajinam bhoomir dhanDam sOmO vanaspathih |

koupeenac chhadhanam maathaa dhyous chhathram jagathah pathEh || 8-18-15

TRANSLATION

[vana: pathi: is vanaspathi – meaning soma the moon – the lord of forests.

In a lighter vein, in the family and commercial world, the moon is more remembered as dalda - since he has become 'dalda' - the vanaspathi – the product edible oil and the trade name of 'dalda' – both are more or less forgotten and that product as 'dalda' only remains in mind.

So the moon, the vanaspathi, is placed under the cloud]

Continuing –

kamandalum vEdha garbhah ku saan saptharshayO dhadhuh |

aksha-maalaam mahaaraaja sarasvathi avyaya aathmanah || 8-18-16

TRANSLATION

O King, [since king pareekshith is being described these by sree sukhar]

thasmaa ithi upaneethaaya yaksha-raaT pathrikaam adhaath |

bhikshaam bhagavathee saakshaadh umaa adhaadh ambikaa sathee || 8-18-17

TRANSLATION

When Vamana deva had thus been given the sacred thread,

Point is - When our subject is 'krishNa avathaaram', we studied about vaamana because lord said, 'I appeared as vaamana, your son, in previous birth and now this is third time' to krishNa's parents.

But why should we study this list of gifts for vaamana avathaaram, when we are more interested in krishNa and his gift list? That is the thought now running in every readers mind.

We have to study that 'gift list of vaamana's along with their donors' from sukhar, because aazhvaar lists out these very same donors in the krishNa's gift list [with some changes of course] and since sukhar has not reported any such list for krishNa.

To me what appears as a list in sukhar's work of bhaagavatham for vaamanan is slightly changed by aazhvaar to suit his version and ascribed to krishNa.

Just recollect that 'maaNikkam katti padhikam' and see what all krishNa was given as per aazhvaar. [refer post 11].

Shall we introduce a table comparing both scenes now – here it is

So as per Swamy PVP veyya kalaippagi is dhurga or umaa or sivan's wife.

Again Swamy PVP says it can also mean Sarasvathy – the brahmaa's wife -
