Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer,

Before going to the next naama in Sri Sadagopan swamy's l08 naamavaLi which is "VaarijAsanAdhi vandhita paadhAya nama:", we can see same 'sringaara sekhara' words being used in the krithi 'maati maatiki' in raagam mOhanam â

pallavi

maaTi maaTiki dhelpavalEnaa

muni maanasaarchitha charaNa

anupallavi

sooRiku okkaTE maaTa chaaladhaa

naaTi modalukoni saaTilEni neethO

charaNam 1

pankaja vadhana sarasa vinOdha

sankaTamula vEgamE dheerparaadhaa
shankarapriya sarvaantharyaamivi gaadhaa

inka naamadhi neeku theliyaga lEdhaa

charaNam 2

karuNA sAgara paripoorNa neeku

sari vElpulu lEranuchu neevaraku
morabeTTina naapai Ela paraaku

varulu joothuru bhaaNDamuna kokka melaku

charaNam 3

shringAra shEkhara suravairi

raajabhanga sujana hrdh-kumudhaabdha

raaja mangaLaakaara roopa jitha

rathiraaja gangA janaka paalitha thyaagaraaja

Of course our VS swamy took this naama from 'seethaa manOhara' krithi in raama manOhari raagam. Just I wanted to bring this naama can also be taken from another krithi. Of course this maati maatiki krithi is rarely sung in katchery platforms. So many may not have heard this krithi.

Since detailed commentary is already done, we proceed with the above naama vaarijaa â

Another naama no.103 of sadagopan swami reads 'Sanakaadhi yOgi Brundha vandhya PaadhAya nama:' (SimhavAhini raga krithi). Since meaning wise both are one and same, both are taken up together to add points and comments.

A small splitting is required to get at the meaning of this vaarijaa--

vaarijaa sana aadhi vandhitha paadhaaya =

vaarijaa + sana + aadhi + vandhitha + paadhaaya

It can also be split as

vaarija + aasana + aadhi + vandhitha + paadhaaya

vaarija + aasanaa + aadhi + vandhitha + paadhaaya

Please note the variations â vaarijaaa in one case, vaarija aasana, in second vaarija aasanaa in 3rd case. Now detailing --

Vaarija is lotus

Case 1 -- vaarijaa â is lotus born â one who is lotus born.

We all know who is this â he is brahmaa

Case 2 -- vaarija aasana â meaning - brahmaa --

because he has the lotus as his seat, that lotus springing up from naval of supreme lord sreeman naaraayaNa.

Case 3 -- vaarija aasanaa is maha lakshmi â see point below. Like raama is the lord, raamaa

â        can be interpreted as 'hey raama' â sounding to mean the male raama being called â viLi in tamil or the 8th case in sanskrit

â        also like raamaa the female â meaning seethaa â vaalmeeki uses this raamaa in sundhara kaaNdam specifically [which I have mentioned in that is seethaa capable series more than once]

â        vaarija aasanaa is maha lakshmi, one who has lotus as her seat besides the chest of the supreme lord. That is why she is called kamalaasnee, padhmaasanee, alarmEl mangai etc. She also worships the feet of her lord besides others.

Brahmaa's sons are Sanaka, Sanandha, Sanaathana and Sanath-kumara. Brahmaa created these 4 sons with the intention that they will do further procreation in the world. These 4 refused and meditated on the lord's feet initially. But brahma has to create further people in the world as per supreme lord's orders to him [for which purpose only these 4 were created]

When these 4 refused, brahma became angry and due to that anger, from the center of his eyebrow came a child crying. Since this child cried from the moment of its creation he is called rudhra [viz. siva]. Then all this 6 started meditating on the lord's feet [brahmaa + sanaka group 4 + rudhra] â that is why this naama.

To look at the other naama 103, again it is 'sanaka aadhi yogi brundha' â 'brundha' in sanslrit is 'a cluster', the cluster of yogis including sanaka and his brothers, all meditate on lord's feet.

We will continue on these 2 naamaas in next post with reference from sreemadh bhaagavatham on the creation of all these 5..
