The comments of my daughter who is doing research on elephants
may be of some interest.
"tusk is one of the teeth (the incisor). there are other teeth also - the molars. but at any point in time an elephant has only four teeth in each jaw (apart from tusks which only male (and not all males) asian elehpants have). in any case, buying any part of an elephant including teeth, hair etc is illegal under the wildlife act and convention on international trade in endangered species (asian elephant is a schedule 1 species). even for collecting dung i take permissions and to collect jaws of dead animals (we use the teeth to age animals) we take permissions. people just like to say some part of an animal or the other are medicinal, like rhino horn or tiger bone, which is usually baseless (scientifically). There are so many thousands of medicinal plants, it might be worth pursuing these as medicines. Adiyen dasan
