Dear Smt Sowmya,
The samashrayanam or the Panchasamskaram is done by an Acharyan to a
Sishya, who has absolute/supreme faith on our beloved lord Sriman
Narayana. The one and the only pre-requisite for this procedure is
SUPREME FAITH on the paramathma, sriman Narayana. The AchArya
initiates a person, irrespective of caste, creed or sex, as his
sishya onto the Acharya lineage (which has begun from Sriman Narayana
himself).

In general, the human body has to undergo many samskArams. This is
done basically to make the body more pure and thereby aid the jIvAtmA
in the path of the realisation of Paramathma. The greatest stumbling
block for advancement in this direction is their body itself, which
is a result of their previous karmAs. So, sAstrAs prescribe various
samskArams NAmakaranAa, Upanayanam etc for its purification. Out of
which Panchasamskaram is the most supreme.

One is a born "BRAHMIN" but definetly not a born "Sri Vaishnava". He
becomes a "Sri Vaishnava" when he/she mentally gets purified, and
attains a state, where he/she believes the one and the only Sriman
Narayana as the "CAUSE" and "EFFECT" of all the happenings that are
taking place in his day to day life.

Our Sri Vaishnava principles have their principles based on "Aasai
Udayorgalukkellam" and it has nothing to do with caste or creed. This
is what our poorvaacharyas had clearly stated and they had lived as
per their words.

If somebody says only the so called "Brahmins" are previliged to
attain the lotus feet of Sriman Narayana, I am sorry, they cease to
exist as Vaishnavas from that D-day.

Azhwar Emperumaanar Jeeyar thiruvadigale saranam,
Adiyen Ramanuja Dasan,
Varadaraja Dasan.
