Narayana Narayana

We all saw how the Supreme Lord Sriman Narayanan came
to Dakshina Sheshadri. Now, let us see how
he made a promise to Agasthya. This is quite a long
story, and I'll be writing it in parts.

The Tirumanam (Kalyanam) of Shiva and Parvathi was
divinely annointed as the setting for this.
Shiva had invited everyone in the three worlds for the
holy occasion. All the Deva gana, asura
gana, bhoota gana, all the rishis, yogis, and all the
living beings in general were invited. So,
on the day of the Tirumanam, everyone gathered at
Kailasam. The weight of all present was so much
that the land area collapsed. Everyone who had
gathered there were worried about this. So, the
divine carpenter Viswakarma came forward to solve the
problem. He said that power of revered sage
Agasthya was equivalent to the power of all the
beings-put together-in all the three worlds. So,
if he went to the south, then the problem would be
solved. Everyone agreed to his words. But sage
Agasthya was frustrated by this suggession, because
then he would miss the golden opportunity to
witness the Tirumanam of Shiva. So, the furious sage
cursed Viswakarma, with the following words:
"Oh Vishwakarma, may you become the lowliest of the
Gods. May carpenters, your descendants, also
be considered lower than their contemporaries. In the
future, however hard they work, may your
descendants, the carpenters, not earn the dignity that
their work warrants. This is the truth."
At this, Viswakarma was infuriated . He straightaway
cursed Agasthya himself, saying that, "Oh Brahmana, if
at all I suggested that you go the south, it
is only keeping in mind the welfare of the gathered
mass. My words did not mask any deceit. You
failed to see the intention behind my words. Instead,
you cursed me for my act. Therefore, even
you have to experience the pain. Although you are a
Brahmana, may you eat flesh of a demon.
Henceforth, may your mother tongue (TAMIL) be known
as"Paishachika Bhasha" (devil's language).
Even though you are a great Tapasvi, may you be
reduced to the state of a royal palanquin-bearer."
Agasthya was very annoyed at Vishwakarma's words. He
immediately left Kailasam and started his
journey southwards.
