thrivikramA towards
mAvali
A person gets property in possession
of the other by doing some con tricks. What happens/ The whole world
abuses the trickster but never goes into the background. The fact that the
possessor of the property is not the legal owner is never considered at all. The
trickster is blamed. The giver to the trickster is left
unassessed.
Here the trickster is none other than the
Almighty and the tricked is 'mahA-bali'
This is what poizhgai AzhwAr opines 'koNdAnai allAl koduthArai yAr pazhippAr?" mudhal
thiruvandhAdhi 79;
What is the real background? one may ask.
Well. As everyone would agree the two thathvam-s namely chith and achith are
subservient to the third -Eswaran. This being so, mahA-bali overlooking the
subservience of the worlds to the Lord started taking possession of the land and
in the process made indhrA landless.
The real snatcher of the property was thus
was mahA-bali and not the other way round, as is perceived. What happens to a
person who steals the property of the Almighty. He is bound to get death
sentence. Did this happen?
No. Why? The Lord felt that since, this
mahA-bali had a good attitude of giving to one and all, his life should be
spared.
'vATTamilA vaN
kai" says nam-AzhwAr in the thiruvoizmohi 7-5-6 ; The tireless
giving arms is considered as the saving grace for otherwise he is posessed with
egoism and egotism. Akin to rAvaNA who took away the property of perumAL,
mahA-bali also took away the property. Hence, similar to rAvaNA he was also to
have died.
This is what is mentioned in the Edu to
the vyAkyAnam to the aformentioned pAsuram
" rAvaNAdhigaLai p
pOle thalaiayai aRuthup pogadavoNNAmaikku nibandhanamuNdAgaiyAlEa, azhiyach
seidhilan"
Therefore, we should realise that though
mahA-bali should also have attained death like rAvaNA, he was spared due to his
'audhArya'guNam
which again highlights the
Lord's
'audhAryam"
