Embracing The
Fire
Sri Sadagopan Iyengar adeptly described
the fire and its attirbutes and brought forth the
aspects of playing with fire. As usual it stimulated
in me some pAsurams of AzhwAr-s which deal about this very
aspect.
When thinking of fire itself is fiery and playing is more so, can anybody
think of embracing the fire. Extremely improbable.
They say small kids do not have fear- siRu kuzhandhai bayam
aRiyAdhu.
Even then, mature beings cannnot even
contemplate of such a drastic act and such rash actions can only be termed
as illogical or inhuman or unnatural but cannot be included in the purview of
valour.
Generally, whom does one embrace? Loved
ones. If the fire is ones loved one? No way ?
Well, sri prahlAdhA was straight away
landed into fire and the his loved one sri narAyANA made the fire feel like
lotus.
If this can be termed as an exception,
what can our beloved nam-AzhwAr's action be called?
Extreme passion towards the Lord makes
mARan see the Almighty in all things around him. Fire was no exception. The
splending red-brightness reminds the Lord. He goes on to embrace
the fire thinking that is achyuthan and lO! the
physique never gets heated or boiled or injured. parAnkusa nAyaki does not
insulate her with any mystic powers. Rather she genuinely feels that is the Lord
going by the sparkling brightness -sen-thE-
If that is so, the fire shoud have done its natural job? It is because
of His thoughts the fire does not fire.
