Madal is one practice in old tamil literature where a nayakan (lover) who has been cheated by the nayaki goes round the place with a drawing of the lover and says that he was in love with so and so person and that now she has refused to accept him. He hopes that atleast by hearing this the parents of the girl, or the king or someone will support him and ask the girl to marry him. The two prabhandhams you are referring siriya thirumadal and periya thirumadal were based on this but it is different in many ways. It was sung by thirumangai azhvar. Azhvar hasnt sung the prabhandams like a lowkika kAmukan as said above. But azhvar sings with deiveka kadal in nayaki bhavam. Adiyen will write a separate posting about the same.
