Dear Sriman Mukundan, You have covered all that has to be covered. However, as you have said, I would like to write something. Instead of "samarpayAmi" for the upachArams, maNavALa mAmunihaL says "kaNdaruLa vENum", I heard. This is in accordance with ALavandhAr's thiruvuLLam according to which we have nothing to offer Him since everything including ourselves are already His. So the food we make is shown to Him and is eaten as His prasAdam. Lord krshNa says whatever we give Him like leaf, flower, fruit, water, with SEshatva buddhi, He accepts it and enjoys it. We know Sri P B aNNan had some divine experience on the hill by which he appraoches the AchArya and becomes his disciple. In suprabhAtam (prapatti), he writes: sattvOttarai: satata sEvya padAmbujEna samsAra tAraka dayArdra drganchalEna sowmyOpayantr muninA mama darSitau tE SrIvEnkatESa charaNau SaraNam prapadyE I submit myself to the feet of the Lord, the remover of iruvinai in Whose niyamanam the world is (vEnkatESa), Who has shown me SrI maNavALa mAmunihaL, whose (the muni's) feet are ever worshipped by those who have excelled in the mode of meaningful existence (bhagavat bhAgavata AchArya kainkaryam), and whose (muni's) gracious glances deliver us from the bondage of samsAra. Here, it is worth remembering eRumbiu appA's line: "tattvam divya prabandhAnAm sAram samsAra vairiNAm", so maNavALa mAmunihaL gives the right knowledge to his disciples out of his grace which is seen in his eyes. Hence he is sowmya upayantA, moon-like bridegroom. sowmyatvam or being pleasant is the lakshaNam of moon, who is amrta kiraNa or whose rays are nectariferous. In the very next verse, SrISa SriyA.., SrI aNNan teaches us dwayArtham. This means, we learn that He is the means and goal from an AchArya whom we obtain by His grace. Where does the Lord reside? Is it in places where religion is available as a commercial commodity? He is everywhere, but explicitly in the hearts of AchAryas like SrImannArAyaNa jIyar, maNavALa mAmunihaL, rAmAnuja, answers P B aNNan: SrImat sundara jAmAtr muni mAnasa vAsinE sarva lOka nivAsAya SrInivAsAya mangaLam suprabhAtam is daily recited even on Thirumala hill even today. I will not elaborate and people can interpret in their own way! adiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan Vishnu ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor --------------------~--> Make a clean sweep of pop-up ads.
