This is the first entrance to the temple town as you come from east.
All the four sides of the outermost wall had unfinished gateways (
mottai gopuram). The southside entrance was completed by the 44th
Jeeyar of Ahobila matam. This destruction makes me sad. Thirumangai
Azhwar and Kulasekhara azhwar may be shedding tears. I understand that
while digging under the semifinished gopuram for laying drainage routes
the ancient structure gave up. I believe that this was done with the
approval of the temple administrartion who neither understand the
sanctity of the temple town nor has any regard for the ancient work of
art. Any old structure will develope cracks and it should be the duty
of the people to repair and preserve it and prevent those engaged in
destroying it.
