Dear Sri Madhavakkannan Prabhu,
Hare Krishna.
Please accept my dandavat pranams.
I read some of your postings on Markandeya Maharishi's
pastime with Lord Shiva and how Vishnu sarvottamatvam
is established. Generally, the popular story is one in
which Markandeya Muni worships the Shivalinga and when
Yamaraja comes to take his life, Lord Shiva comes out
of the linga and kicks Yamaraja and protects the sage
thus bestowing the status of siranjiva on him. We also
hear of Markandeya Muni in the 12th canto of the
Srimad Bhagavatam where he gets the blessings of Lord
Shiva and obtains darshan of the Lord at the time of
pralayam as Baby Krishna on the leaf (Aalilai Kannan).
We would like to hear more nectar from you in this
connection. Is there any pastime linking Vishnu's
supremacy and role to Lord Shiva's protecting
Markandeya Muni ? Where does this theme come up in
Naalaayiram ? And are there any puranic references for
this ?
Thanking you in advance,
dasan
