PranAmAs to all my friends throughout the world. Regd. marriage, whatever i have heard there is no concept called mAngalyam. Thats why we dont have any sruti vAkyam for that. It might have come during the muslim invasion or the English invasion. For us it is just the sapthapati, that is being considered as registration. If the husband dies before sapthapati, then the girl can re-marry according to our vedam. My question, now-a-days people love each other (It usually happens in family staying in foreign countries and those who work in IT field ). suddenly they say they have married( Guy has tied the mAngalyam to that girl). Whether it can be considered as a marriage or not? Only during pAnigrahanam the guy can touch the girl hand. Now-a-days it has bcom quite common. (and to the worse I heard a guy marrying a girl of same gothram. She is considered to be his sister bcoz of same gothram.). Whether these r acceptable?? I would like to know certain things. How marriage was arranged in those days for brahmins? In case of Kshatriyas, it is something different bcoz polygamy was allowed for them. They have various types of marriage. (If am not wrong they have seven types of marriage like love marriage, ghandarva etc.) EX: Dushyantha's marriage with Sakuntala. But that is not the case of Brahmins. For us it is only the sapthapati, that is being considered as marriage registration. My question is 1. Do they follow any things like matching Gothram, horoscope etc whatever we follow now-a-days?? Is there any instance in Sanskrit literatute or in vedic text that quotes these things. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable.
