Dear SrimAn Soundararajan, Thank you for your kind words about my being a "believable SriVaishnavan"! (Please permit me to say however that an "un-believable SriVaishnavan" would be a contradiction in terms). I'm glad you ask me about Sri Mukkur Lakshminarasimhachariar. Though he is no more amidst us bodily, let me say Sri Mukkur Swami continues to be my mentor and inspiration in spirit. There is not a single day that passes without my remembering him. A phrase that he uttered, a story he narrated, a difficult philosphical concept he elaborated for the sake of a lay person like me, a majestic Vedic passage he recited in that inimitable style of his, a poignant "pAsuram" he quoted in praise of his beloved Nrsimhan.... any one or more of these things keep crossing my mind, again and again, almost daily in my day-to-day life --- whether I'm at work in the office, driving, reading a book or taking an evening walk... Sri Mukkur Swamy lives with me still... and we continue to share our silent conversations on this and that matter ... and more. Do I miss him, after all these years? Of course, yes, I miss him terribly. More intensely than I could or even wish to describe in plain words. There are 2 dear persons in life whose earthly departure I still continue to grieve over --- firstly, my "thAyyAr", Sangeeta Kalanidhi Smt.Mani Krishnaswami and secondly, my 'mAnaseeka guru' Sri Mukkur Swamy. Grief passes in time, but pain, stubborn pain, sometimes just refuses to go the same way. When I recollect some of my most special moments with these two souls that were so dear to me in my life, I cannot but help feel and echo the poet's moving words: When oft upon the couch I lie, In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon the inward eye, Which is the bliss of solitude... So, Sir, if you ask me the question why in my postings on the Tiruvenkatam or SriRangasri lists, I don't openly profess anymore my prized association with Mukkur Swamy, what can I really say? Perhaps only that I should be left alone to savour my private and pensive moments with him -- in solitude, in bliss and in the abiding quietness that only the inward eye knows? Thank you so much, however, for your mail. It helped me today remember a departed mentor... as I certainly do every other day too.
