Dear Bhagavatas: Here is a shocking report from one of our members. Though the veracity of this report is yet to be verified, if what is said is true, it is really shocking. It is a moot question whether we can afford to be complacent, hoping that the Lord will take care of the situation. Maybe not. Misuse of temple funds is nothing new. It has become a second nature with our politicians. They were never known for their rectitude. Swindling public moneys has become the norm not only with politicians but also with various so called trusts operating in the name of some "worthy" cause or other. We have to think not once but a thousand times before donating our hard earned moneys in such bogus ventures. After all, Vigilance is the price of our liberty! Dasoham Anbil Ramaswamy ====================================================================== Stealing our money On 13th March Andhra Pradesh minister for endowments D Sivarama Raju presented a cheque of Rs 1 cr to Chandra Babu Naidu, for CM's relief fund, from the Tirupati kitty, which is the donation of lakhs of Hindu devotees, for Hindu establishments and Hindu temples. This is a shocking misuse of money we give to our temples and nothing short of day light robbery. Unfortunately, only for Hindus, the funds and temples are being controlled by the politicians. It is more unfortunate because Naidu is seen as an anti-Hindu politician who conducts only Iftar and Christmas party for the vote of minorities and condemns Hindus at every opportunity. Some 584 acres of land of Tirumala Tirupati Devastanam property worth Rs 200 cr is encroached, there were 1000 cases filed against it and even some 30 cases were won by government, yet the AP government had withdrawn all the cases. One of my relative was the Kerala State Devaswom Board commissioner in the sixties. What I came to know from him was quite shocking. For the appointment of chief priests in some of the well-known temples in the state, the politicians collect huge bribes, the reason being that the chief priests can collect very large amount of money within a year and they want a share of it in advance. In Kerala Communists have appointed non-believers and one can guess its effect on temples. Since my birth I have not seen a single Hindu organisation or association or trust or anything connected with Hinduism, interacted with me, my family or my known Hindu friends, even though we all have donated thousands of Rupees to various temples over the years. Hindus are growing up in isolation whereas Christian and Muslim religious organizations are always at hand to help them. Hindu establishments in the hands of any government are like entrusting ones property in the hands of a bunch of thieves. Returning the religious establishments back to Hindus will protect the assets, and enable us to have some form of social support for Hindus, which is absent at present. Till the law comes up, I advise everyone to stop putting money in the temple kitty and donate it directly to Hindu charities. N Krishna Hyderabad
