Dear Bhagavatottamas, I was reading this long article below regarding plunderingin religious institutions. In Andhra Pradesh (or most south indian temples) it is the Endowments Dept, Govt officials, some selfish people and ofcourse silently enduring devotees who by and large have become responsible for plundering. I will give a small example here: Original Muthangi of Lord Ranganatha (donated by a famous Pandyan king) is no more there, only plastic pearls returned from tanjore art gallery where it was taken under the orders of the then DMK govt (in seventies). A CBI enquiry was constituted, but the reports never were filed for the two officers were beheaded outside SriRangam temple. We have innumerable such cases everywhere. Trustees, be it Govt or private should be truely 'trustees' and should never ever cast their eye on the property for which they are trustees. I will bring a story from Uttarakandam of Valmiki Ramayanam. A dog washit on head by stone by an enraged pious man as it was not moving from hisway. The bleeding dog complained to Lord Rama in his court and the pious man was summoned. For this deed Lord Rama makes the pious man trustee of a temple and he goes away with all the pomp and glory involved for a 'dharmakartha'. While every one were surprised, it was the dog which was smiling at the justice of the Lord. When the lords subjects asked him, the dog repliedthat in his previous birth he was a trustee and a good 'trustee' who did no misappropriation. Its birth was only due to the fact that it also lived on the same wealth. Such is the life of a trustee & the aftermath is severe. His life from the above story is like walking on sword's tip. But many people dont ever understand the inner depth of this story and keep on doing what they want ! Its the devotees who need to come forward now, to set our religious institutions right-lest they will be gone for ever. Sajjana Padapadma paramanuhu Laksmi Narasimha dasaha
