Respected Sir : Sorry for the delayed response. To clarify. The writer did not mean one may continue to commit sins or the Sandhya is a license to commit sin. The importance of the Sandhya and its powers were sought to be highlighted. What was meant was as mortal humans surrounded by our material pursuits, even if we keep on strengthening ourselves to confront evil, temptations and other problems of the mind, they keep on attacking us. But as we keep doing the Sandhya regularly, over a period many years, the effect of the Sandhya will overtake the mind's workings and no evil, problem and other thoughts will take root. On the contrary constant and sustained devoution to the Lord will be strengthened. So during Sandhya we must necessarily try to be outside the influence of material thoughts and influences, but once the Sandhya is over then we have to work in this world and then the influences will start happening. We may take much care but still we may find in numerous testing situations. I also believe the purification mantras of Sandhyavandanam are not a license to commit sin, rather are there to cleanse the sin. They may have the power to purify even the gravest of sins, but that doesn't mean they are expecting us to commit sin. Their purpose is to purifiy us from the inevitable basal sin associated with the act of living, may it be sin in words, deeds or thoughts. It can be compared to taking bath or brushing teeth, which we do routinely. Naturally, we don't purposely fall in a septic tank so as to fully exploit the power of bath! Another analogy could be like an insurance policy (Health or life). The company that sold you the policy would like you not to ever have to use it! dAsan K.
