Dear All, There's so much more to Goa, than sun and sand. In Goa there is a rare Mahalaksmi Temple. This temple was established in the year 1413 A.D. by Gowda Saraswat Brahmins. This is about is 4 kms from Ponda in the village Bandora. I am attaching the pictures of the Godess. A special feature of the Bhandiwade Mahalaxmi is that she wears a Linga on her head and the locals say that she is considered a peaceful or Satvik form of the Devi. She has four arms. These arms hold a sickle, a club, a dagger, and a vessel containing prasad and flowers. The original stone idol at the centre of 'Garbhagar', while the small metal idol which was brought from Kolva is placed in corner. The festivals celebrated here are Mahashivaratra this is dedicated to the original deity, while of the Ram-navami is performed in honour of the deity from Colva. On Ramanavami the deity is placed in the Maharath and taken into procession. Other festivals observed here are Shri Mahalakshmi Pratishthapana Day in Vaishakha and Navaratri Festival . In the temple the Sabhamandap has a gallery of 18 images and contains rare wooden images of Vishnu in India. Please view the attachment and have a glimpse and also the blessings of the rare Mahalakshmi idol. Regards, Srimathi Venkatachari Raghavan P.S.:I am sure now all of you would accept that there is more to Goa than sun and sand. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo!
