Respected members, There was a recent article by one of our erudite colleagues
on rama the fourth. He has mentioned balrama And parasurama as avatharas- which
is commonly accepted. However I have a few doubts on this.
Avathar means a descent by our Lord to this earth to destroy evil and protect
vedic dharma. He returns to vaikuntha afterwards. All his kalyangunas remain
unaltered and no thamoguna is present.in the avathara
Parasurama is a mortal, born to mortal parents and grew like other jeevas,The
Lords avesa entered into him and endowed him with power to destroy a powerful
and insolent king. The powe r was withdrawn during his encounter with
Srirama. He yhen continued his exisence even during the next yuga..He was
supposed to have annhilated 21 dynasies of kshathriyas-as punishment for the
fault of one king. Can this be the charecterstic of an avathara. The fact that he
was only an avesa amsa of the Lord is also held by an eminent scholar in his
book-maranum maraithamizhum.
Balaram is repeatedly quoted as avathara of adisesha. He preceeded
Krishna-perhaps a compensation for being born as a younger brother to Rama and
carrying out some unpalatable orders of the elder brother.Balaram was known to
be a heavy drinker and quicktempered. Krishna beguiled him to go on a
pilgrimage before the Kurushetra war,What was the neccessity of two
simultaneous avatharas? Is not the Lord powerful to handle problems
singlehandedly.Granted parasurama was an avathara why should two avathra
purushas clash' We also observe that there are no temples for parasurama and
balarama.
Is it possible that avathara here is appended to recognise the two great
weapns of the Lord-parasu and hala?
Lastly can Ramanuja rather than Ramamisra be truly considered the Rama of
kaliyuga, since like Lakshmana and Balramo he was adisesha sent to propagate
the Lords glory. My impertinence may kindly be pardoned .
I had also observed taht only seven avatharas ar e depicted on the front wall
before the prakaram in the Govindaraja temple in tirupathi.Tirupathi natives
may please confirm.
