SrI: SrImathE Gopaladesikamahadesikaya namah: Dearest Srivaishnavas, Let us continue to enjoy PeiyAzhwAr?s wonderful anubhavams on ThiruvEnkatam. Today?s verse on ThiruvEnkatam is the 68th verse. paarttha kaduvan sunain^eer nizaRkaNdu, pErtthOr kaduvanenap pErnthu, - kaarttha kaLanganikkuk kain^eettum vEngadamE, mEnaaL viLanganikkuk kanReRinthaan veRpu. 68 Yet another poetic skill of AzhwAr! The strong [masculine] male monkey, [sitting on a branch of a tress in the ThiruvEnkatam mountain] looks at its reflection in the pond below, mistakenly thinks that it is another monkey staring at it; It gets scared and becomes afraid of the reflection [meaning: by itself, our hero is strong and majestic] and attempts to leave the place to avoid any potential trouble from the [imaginary[ enemy. While leaving, its flickering mind gets tempted to taste the fruit in the nearby branch [not in the tree where it is sitting] but from the branch of the reflected tree and extends its palm [as begging] to the water monkey (its own reflection) ?Please give me a fruit from that branch?. In such a cool beautiful place of ThiruvEnkata mountain, resides our Lord who had thrown [during KrishNAvathAram] the demonic calf against the viLampazha tree to kill both vathsAura and the other asurA who had hidden in the tree; both intending to kill Kutti KaNNan. The male money even though its gets sscared looking at its own reflection and chooses to go to avoid trouble, gets tempted with flickering mind, trying to enjoy even at the time of trouble. [exactly similar to human minds ? trying to enjoy the dripping honey though caught between the devil and the deep sea in both sides.. though caught in samsaaric afflictions, and being aware of the fleeting lives, still running amuck after sensual pleasures- no way different from monkeys]. AndAL also refers to this vathAsura incident in her Thiruppavai 24th verse- anRu ivvulagam.. kanRu kuNilaa yeRindhaay kazhal pORRi. kanRu the asurA who came as a calf kunilaa you used as a stick (against another asurA) eRindhaay threw kazhal [with the great foot work] pORRi we sing "All Hail, all glory!" kaNru kiNilaa eRindhaay kazhal pORRi. When vasthAsura appeared as calf and came near You with an attempt to kill you, You noticed that asurA by its different eyes (thiruttu muzhi and not loving affectionate eyes like other calves) and took the calf by its tail and swirled the calf hitting against the another asurA (who came in as viLAm pazha tree) so that your friends could eat the fruits and enjoy as well.. your marvellous deeds can not be described in words at all. May Your such grandest deeds and Your lotus feet remain for millions of years after years with us When the viLAm pazham is aimed at with the calf, the legs bend and the ankle [kazhal] is visible prominently. The strength to throw the calf arises from the thiruvadi [lotus feet] and hence this is praised. The gopikAs also take the opportunity to praise the short thiruvadi(kunjitha paadham) in contrast to the Feet that grew to measure the Universe.
