Sri:

sometime back i requested the members to help me find the meanings of the
sahasranaama slokas on the net. i had recd. one or 2 replies. when i
checked, it starts from the sloka Om Vishum vishnur vasathkaara ... and not
from Om Suklambaradharam..... Also it described that each word from the above
mentioned sloka are narayanan's naamams and had given the meanings of each
naamam. we know very well that sahasranaama slokas contains 1000 namaas of
sriman narayanan.

i just want to know whether there are any inner meanings and can anyone help
me in finding the literal meanings of the slokas. i also tried searching
various archives but i cannot find.

  thank & regards.

SrI:
Dear Smt Padmaja,

The 1000 namas start with Viswam.. the earlier slokas, are introductory
verses...
You may read the below books for the detailed meanings.

Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Bhasyam
Authors : Sri (Dr.) V. N. Vedantha Desikan
Publisher : Sri Visishtadvita Research Center, 1997
   Version : English/Tamil (pp.375)

Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Stotram, that is found in Sri Mahabharatam,
was composed by Sri Bhismacharya in reply to a query by Dharmaputran.
It contains 1008 sacred names of the Lord that are pregnant with
deep inner meaning and are a delight to recite. Sri Parasara
Bhattar has explained the meaning of each one of these divine names
in his Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Bhasyam called "Bhagavat Guna Darpanam".
Mahamahopadhyaya Sri M. V. Ramanujacharya in his 1928 publication
explained Bhattar's interpretation of the thousand names succinctly
in Tamil. In this book Sri (Dr.) V. N. Vedantha Desikan has done an
excellent job of providing a free English translation of the same.

There is also another book in english on Sri Parasara bhattar's wonderful
vyAkhyAnam written by Sri U Ve A Srinivasaraghavan.

Let us read one of his descriptions in English:
Sri ParAsara BhaTTar in his Bhagavad guNa darpaNam uses the word "AvijnAthA' as
one of the thousand names of the Lord (Vide Nama 483 of Sri VishNu
SahasranAmam). This means "Non-cognizant" as per the English translation by
Prof. A. Srinivasaraghavan (page 474 published by Sri VisishTAdvaita PrachArini
Sabha in 1983).
He interprets it as follows:
" Even though He sees the innumerable sins committed by pious devotees, He not
only does not punish them but also forgives them. Not only this much. He is
even OBLIVIOUS of their sins"

ParAsara BhaTTar adds-
"Not taking into account the faults committed by those who have taken refuge in
BhagavAn, is certainly a quality that is commendable. Therefore, my revered
father (Sri KoorathAzhwAn) has said-
Thus we speak in reproof of thy omniscience and say
'Thou art ignorant. Thou dost dote on the faults of thy devotees'

The above gives the lie direct to the argument by some that the Lord
"relishes" the sins of the Jivas. What is meant is the He "ignores" and
"forgives"- not "relishes [Thanks to Sri Anbil Ramaswamy for his write up]

Namo Narayana
