On pranava japam and so on: As everyone is too well aware of, this is very difficult to learn from books. Pranayamam, as far as sandhyavandanam is concerned, consists of the following: An inhalation through one nostril Holding an exhalation through the other nostril. This makes up one pranayanamam. Before proceeding further, the info that we are about to give is according to Shri T. Krishnamacharaya of yoga fame. He was a staunch shrivaishnava who led his life according to the rules laid down by Shri Ramanuja and Shri Vedanatha Desika. He has given extensive info as to how sandhyavandanam used to be performed and how it has been condensed for the sake of convenience for the modern times. He has studied siksha, vyakaranam, chhandas, etc, was an expert on puranam and upanishads and also an expert in Vedam, just to give an indication of 'who' he was! We will attempt to give as much of the info we have as possible. He has also given references from Upanishads and so on and so forth. He has given details of how the pranayamam should be performed along with the manthra japam, and we will try to give this info as clearly as possible to thosee who are interested in knowing this - Our request: Interested bhagavathas, please do adequate research on Krishnamacharya, if you intend to read and think about what we say. We will take it and do it privately. So we request of those who want this info to send us a private email at venkatesan.subha@xxxxxxxxx, so that this can be circulated to only those who are interested. We do not want to start a separate group; however, since this may be a little too much for the purpose of this group and a lot of work for the moderators, we can do it in private mailings. And this will be only for the purpose of pranayamam and dhyanam in the context of sandhyavandanam. As much of the info as possible will be accompanied by the examples and references he has given from upanishads and so on. It will be very evident that this comes from a eminent authority, and not from us. We will also try to send audio clips when we can, for those who can understand Tamil and Sanskrit. We invite interested ladies to also join in because dhyanam is common to women also and they can understand and help their children to do this after their upanayanam. The postings will be long, since the explanations are extensive. Once again, all who are interested send an email to venkatesan.subha@xxxxxxxxx Subhangan (I'm doing this with the help of Subha Venkatesan, my mother and Venkatesan, my father.) ------------------------ Yahoo!
