Dear All,
The queryst wants some explanation to "K-1.
KAmyArtha vratam" of PancAnGa kurrippu drafted by
me. This item says "they run the risk of anti effects, for
non-adherence of prescriptions strictly". Explanations are
:
kAmyArtha vratam = Those acts undertaken with the goal of
achieving some material
benefits like wealth, position,
extended life, destruction of enemies etc. How & what to do
= these are prescribed in sAstras. Non-adherence of
prescription = any lacune in time, place, method, material etc; or
shortfall/ excess in manta/
tantra/ swara or even conviction and commitment
etc.
Examples are already given as,
Monday/saturday upavAsam, sravaNA vratam etc.. Resulr = if duly
performed , sure to secure results.
If not performed as prescribed = doer loses not only the result;
but also sure to face anti-
results. A case
in example is sOmasarma, a brahmin, who not only failed to
achieve wealth, (for
which he started the yagnya) because he
could not complete it (due to his death); but
also got transformed as brahma rAkshas -
This is explained in kaisika purAna.
Sum-up = there is no compulsion to perform kAmya karmas.
but shd we venture and not complete it, sans shortfalls explained above,
for non-achievement of results (and begetting anti-results) let us not
blame sAstrAs.
Still there may arise one doubt - Why sAstrAs shd mention
about kAmya karmAs at all? Answer is : sAtrAs are
common to one and all - good, bad and indifferent. If it caters to only
good, then it may be tainted as "pro-good". To avoid this situation, it
says everything. In otherwords, it should or can not be blamed for the
results; but only performers.
Another question is : why people choose such risky acts ? Answer
is : they are driven by their karma and the resultant mind-set.
Solace = As against this, shd there be any shortfall in nitya/
naimittika, srivaishNavAs don't face risk of non-result (since
they do it for the pleasure of SrimannArAyanA; and ther are no
anti-effects - so say sAstrAs. Hence prudence shd drive not to
ommit nitya/naimittikAs and venture into
kAmyAs.
Hope, it is clear.
Pl. feel free to shoot queries. I'll try to explain, with the grace
of AcAryas and to the best of my ability.

I have doubt
in one of the things, like in this below para, it is mentioned that, quote
âThey
run the risk of anti-effects, for non-adherence of prescriptions,
strictly)â and was
wondering, if you can shed some more light on this .
