Sri Krishnaya Namah! The question is really interesting and I expect all bhaktas in this forum to express their methodology for our benefit. My understanding in this topic is like this. If one do his duties - be it loukika or paraloukika, he should not bound by what he is doing. In other words, we should not think of the results arising out of karma while doing it but we should do it properly. See, in our daily life, if we are doing any work and we are bound by the feeling of what comes out of it, the efficiency definitely takes a beating resulting in a rank low degree output. This was very well explained by Ms.Padma Row in her discourse on BG. What she says is that we have to select karma, do it whole heartedly and while doing forget about the result/output. We should think of ways and means of doing it efficiently but not on the result, while doing Karma. Thus, we can increase our shraddha in the karma and by adopting a uninterested attitude we are saving ourselves from the attachment that comes along with output. The other way of approaching this is to just think of Him while doing Karma, as if it is being done to appease him thus leaving the rest to Him. For example, we are doing sandhyavandanam or some daily puja for Him and after doing it, we should not be thinking that whether He is happy or angry about our misprounciation of some mantras etc., For, the mind wanders always like a vagabond and we need to pull it back in its place. We just have to chant Hari Om and leave the rest to Him / surrender to Him, letting him the choice of gracing us or otherwise. Also, our deeds should not be attached with any desire, which if so done, results in a philosophical/spiritual state of happiness in us. For example, in our professional life, afterall the struggle we put in, there comes a time during the end of financial year, wherein we expect some increments from the orgn. This expectation/desire is the very reason for all miseries and the vasanas that we acquire while doing karma. It is just like going on a pilgrimage not to see Perumal but ask for something or the other from him, which itself nullifies the effort that we put in seeing Him. Net net, we just have to do things, just like the famous ad 'Just do it' and surrender our mind/aatma to Him with the body doing things, mechanically. We need to mortgage our mind (path for reaching aatman) with Him with a condition that He will keep that with Him securely always.
