Sri Krishnaya Namah! As Sri Krishna says in BG, the mind can be our friend or the foe, depending on our usage. It would be better, if the bhagavathas in this forum express their methodology adopted to control wavering mind. Life styles differ for each one of us but we are bound by the same external influences whether in office or in home and it is our foremost duty to first train and control mind. To controls ones mind is very difficult, that too in this age where money/power plays a key role. Some of the normal things, that we can do in our daily life would be to -- 1. Takeout the cable connection out of our tv sets and hear only bhajans and kirtans of Lord or View only Aastha or Sanskar channels for productive usage of time 2. Keep busy during idle times in reading epics and sutras 3. Take only sathvik food to enable sound sleep and sound thoughts 3. Have a strict regimen in the morning hours by waking up early to do naimithika karma and yoga with pranayam. Pranayam is a wonderful in combating wavering mind. If done in padmasana for 1/2 hour (max.) this will do wonders, while asanas help in allowing sound thoughts and ensuring sound health. 4. Mix with people who are having similar thoughts like us, i.e., bhagavathas. Otherwise, we may end up in idle chat involving passing of snide remarks/jokes on someone, indulging in paraninda etc. 5. Complete control on food & drinks. Abstain completely from outside food. Sathvik food devoid of onions/garlic are the best bet. Infact, this has to be ingrained in our household that food plays a role in forming our mindset. If we have a habit of hearing discourses on BG (because this only has all the answers that one has in this world), we can learn a lesson or two. I used to hear discourses on BG by Sri.Asaramji, Sri Parma Row, Sri Parthasarathy etc., on Sanskar/Aastha channel. The way they mention on combating desires (like food, sexual thoughts etc.,) is noteworthy. If we have a innate ability to grasp the finer points, and if we don't have access to Vedas and literatures of Alwars, this is the better way. 6. Nama japam is the most effective way to keep our mind busy and focussed. 7. If possible move away from city life and welcome secluded village life. 8. Be a loner and enjoy the silence that dawns on you. Refer Sri Sri's discourses on Silence. Introspect the days happening and think bad for the bad things that might have happened knowingly/unknowingly, Because sins once committed takes many lifes to come out it. 9. Before all the above, we should first analyse ourselves as to which group we belong - sathvik, rajasik or tamasik and then strive and get ourselves upgraded with His krupa. We should have to do our bit and choose our path, before seeking blessings from Him. Once we acquire knowledge and wisdom, bhakti grows. These are what my thoughts and I apologise if I sound naive. But just share my limited knowledge - 1.Mind can be controlled by mind only 2.Sometimes out of sight is out of mind- like only when we see mangoes during summer our craving starts. 3.Satvic food etc , breathing practices; pranayamam checks velocity of mind 4. Actually we have to welcome certain enemies like vairagya, sense control etc which will later on become good friends of our mind. Once bigger enemy comes the weaker ones like kama, krodha etc automatically walks out. In such a company only we can expect the Lord to take permanent seat. Learned people call it like " Sama" and " Dama" Definitely I am not the right candidate to dwell on this mysterious topic. In hindi they say man jite jag jitey. People say it is difficult but not impossible.
