Dear Bhagavathas,

It is adiyen's privilege to convey my felicitations to Sri Sadagopan
Swamin and
Sri Srinivasa Gopalan Swamin (aka Sri Uppili Swami) for being selected
for this
year's Sri Ramanuja Mission?s annual awards. All of us know very well about
Sri VS swami's brilliance and eloquent writing style combined with the nectar
of his personal anubhavams. Adiyen sincerely pray to Acharyan and
Divyadhampathis bless this ?Ratnam? with a long healthy life.

Sri Srinivasa Gopalan swami is adiyen's friend, philosopher and guide for the
past (more than) twenty years. He is one of those rare gems, silently
doing his
services to our sampradhayam without expecting anything in return. It is our
bhagyam to have such a learned young scholar among us. As said in
Upanishad, he
is not only doing pravachanam (teaching) but also continues to do his
Swadhyayam
(learning). In a week he spends nearly 14-18 hours in teaching and
learning our
sampradhayam related matters. This is apart from his professional commitments
as a chemist. Really well deserving person for the Kainkarya Thilakam award.
Adiyen would also like to thank and acknowledge his wife, Smt. Amina Gopalan's
patience and encouragement for his services.

I would like to quote some of his well-wishers, students and friends here:

aDiyEn is immensely happy to learn that our Uppili Gopalan Swamy has been
awarded "Kainkarya Thilakam" by Sri Ramanuja mission. No one deserves this
better than him for this kainkaryam. and secondly, the quality of his
teaching is another aspect that needs to be honored.....Secondly, we should
not forget that Smt Amina needs to be thanked, because for any kainkaryam ,
those that help to make it happen , are equally to be commended and
without her
sacrifice of his time week after week it wouldn't have been possible at all.

May Udeyawar shower His blessings for ever on their family to continue
to do His
kainkaryam ...
(Shrimathi Sheela Belur, MD)

"Acharya Devo bhava". Quality of teaching, humble nature, thanking
acharyas and
periyavas for any accolade given to him, all these qualities are sure to fetch
him the award and many more awards in the years
to come. May Udayavar shower His blessings for ever on their family to
continue
to do this mahonnatha kainkaryam.
Thanks to Smt Amina too, as azvar says "nalla pathaththaal manai vaazvar konda
pendir Makkale". Pallandu pallandu to him and his Family.
(Shri Narasimhan Chakravarthi, NY)

I still remember Uppili teaching Nachiyar Thirumozhi to my cousins in
his small
hostel room in Bangalore during his PhD days. He used to be a sought after
person for both youngsters(???) like us and also old people in Bangalore(Like
my uncle) for Veda Parayanam. His Divya Prabhandam teaching started
right after
he left Triplicane and still continues. I pray Perundevi and Perarulaan to
bestow all auspiciousness to Uppili Family.
(Shri Kazhiyur Narayanan, NV)

Being the only person, or one of the few (maybe vegas Sri Kazhiyur Narayanan
etc) that i know of in the US who is teaching after learning fully in the
traditional style both the samskritha and dravida vedam.

* Teaching others to chant correctly, with the correct pronunciations and
intonation.

day after day, week after week, without expecting anything in return. (for the
past 7+ years)

* The sincerity and quality of his teaching as evidenced by his students.
eg: Adiyen was the recipient of his teaching for a few portions. For
ThiruVai sessions, because he did not have any day time, he volunteered his
time at 6 am to do Thiruvai and polish my chanting (one on one)of
UpadesaRatthina malai and Kovil Thiruvaimozhi. Six am for a Gruhastha
with Kids
and regular job in the US. That is the sincerity and dedication that all his
students are blessed with Sri Uppili Swami as the teacher.

He continued to teach this class for a few weeks till he was satisfied of the
end result. Unfortunately i am so far away from him (Wdc) in Chicago to make
use of this god given opportunity. But there are many blessed students in the
DC area and other over the telebridge who benefit from his teaching for the
past seven years.

=> His Humility:
Though adiyen had heard of sri Uppili Swamin in 1996, the stalwart from
Sri.Vanamamalai Mutt, Adiyen was fortunate to meet sri Uppili Swamin only in
1998 when we took part in Dhivyaprabhandotsavam in WDC conducted by Sri
Venkatesan Iyyengar over a thanksgiving weekend.
Apart from Sri Venkatesan Iyyengar the only other person without any
book in the
Goshti was sri Uppili Swamin. Adiyen introduced him to other devotee friends
as sri U.Ve Uppili Swamin, and he stopped me from using U.Ve, saying even
though i heave learnt all this, i am just a tape-recorder
who can reproduce everything i have learnt, please do NOT prefix me
with me U.Ve
etc. Such is his humility.

(Shri Mukundan Vangkipuram Pattangi)

Adiyen join all these Bhagavathas to congratulate Sri Srinivasa Gopalan Swami
and pray to DivyaDhampathigal to bless Sri Gopalan and his family with all the
auspiciousness and happiness.

Adiyen would also like to thank everyone at Sri Ramanuja Mission for selecting
such gems to present these awards. Poliga! Poliga! Poliga!

Adiyen Ramanujadasan Kannan
