Dear all,
This is the same I heard from many Vedic Scholars also.
Yes, Vedam was only a single entity of knowledge until Veda Vyasa started to teach to his Sishyas.
But, Veda Vyasa gave the single Veda as four sections to his four sishyas Jaimini, Paila, VaisampAyana and Sumantha.
That is why Veda Vyasa is called the compiler of the Vedas.
These four Sishyas of Veda Vyasa started propogating the Single Veda as four different sections - Rig, Yajur, SAma and Atharva Vedas.
