Sri: SrimathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya nama: Dearest all, In the upper world (Golden world), You are the very Gold of Golden world and shine the brightest. In order to save and protect the Universe, You have entered into and manifested in the Prakrithi maNdalam, in all directions and in all times. Those who missed to enjoy seeing You in Vibhava avathAram, You are showing Yourself so beautifully and gracefully in Divya Desams for our sake. Thus, the places like ThirumoozhikkaLam have become Divya Desams. What a kaaruNyam! What an affection and love on us!- says AzhwAr in this verse. Further more divya desams are in this verse. ponnaanaay! pozhilEzum kaaval pooNda pugazhaanaay! igazhvaaya thoNda NnEnn^aan, 'ennaanaay? ennaanaay?' ennal allaal ennaRiva NnEzhaiyEn, ulaga mEtthum thennaanaay vadavaanaay kudapaa laanaay guNapaala thaayinaay imaiyOrk kenRum munnaanaay pinnaanaar vaNangum sOthi! thirumoozhik kaLatthaanaay mudhalaa NnaayE! 10 mudhal aanaay ? You are there in the entire South (of India) in Divya Desams vada aanaay ? same goes in the North kudapaal aanaay ? west as well; guNa paal madhayaanaay ? In the east you have become the male elephant (in Divya Desams) imaiyOrkku yenRum ? For the Devas and Nithyasuris -forever mun aanaay ? You are there in their presence for their sake always pin aanaar ? For those who did not enjoy Your vibhava avathArams (and missed Your vibhava avathArams) vaNangum ? worship jOthi ? the lustrous One as archA moorthi thirumoozhikkaLatthu aanaay ? You have appeared and shown Yourself in ThirumoozhikkaLam divya desam; guNapaal madha yaanaay- Male elephant in the east. In fact all words in all directions are ?aanaay? and hence elephant can be referred to all directions (not necessarily east alone). Even the bhAgawathas are considered as elephants. In Daya sathakam, it can be seen in DrshtEbhi dhurbaladhiyam verse in Daya sathakam. The Lord is described as elephant in may places. Raman is enjoyed by Dasaratha as the One who walks like the elephant. Gaja simha gathi- says Sage Valmiki. One should perform ThiruvArAdhanam considering the Lord as the very elephant and do with respect and fear. DhandhakaLiRu and madhakkaLiRu are referred to KaNNan. The elephant is huge; massive. Grateful. Never ever forgets whatever is done. It elevates one above by lifting. It lowers itself for others to reach the same. The same is equally applicable to the Lord Sriman Narayanan as well. ennaanaay ? why repeated two times in the verse? Due to languishing with the pangs of serapartion, AzhwAr says- why? Why? Swami Periya Vacchan PiLlai blessed in his commentary thus: 1. The elephants ? once we see them, we don?t want to get saturated with our enjoyment; we would like continue watching the elephant at all times; every day and all places. They are so lovely, huge and grand. 2. It walks proudly and majestically 3. When it thinks of taking someone, it hugs them with its trunk and take them up. 4. it lowers itself for others to climb 5. when it sees trouble makers, it angers on them severely 6. it gives the rope to the mahout for him to tie the same. All these guNAs are equally applicable to the Lord ? says Sri Periya vacchan Pillai Swami. Similarly the gold can be compared to the Lord. (pon aanaay) 1. those who have gold in their homes, would take care of the same as if it is their very life itself. So precious 2. They would never ever like to part with the gold 3. Veda says, when one wears gold, the enemies would be dhurvarNam (destroyed?) 4. Those losing gold would long for the same and cry for getting it back 5. It is the most precious 6. It is invaluable and never diminishes 7. Great to enjoy seeing gold and golden ornaments 8. When united with gemstones, more shining and beautiful 9. Pure on its own What a great commentary by Swami Sri Periya Vacchan Pillai! Enjoyment of Purchacharyas are always to be enjoyed by learning at the feet of acharyas! By reciting their taniyans, and paying our praNamams, let us read these commentaries and acharyan would bless us with more jnAnam and anubhavam with more kainkarya sri.
