Dear Deepak, I am very thankful to you for this question which elicited response from Sri Ramachandran which gave clarity to some of my doubts too. As an aside, I would like to put my thoughts on your dilemma as under. -----Original Message----- From: SriRangaSri@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:SriRangaSri@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Deepak Vinod Sent: Tuesday, November 07, 2006 3:39 AM Subject: [SriRangaSri] Mukti/Liberation! Is it that cheap? Shri Hari Respected elders! Please enlighten me on an issue that has been lingering on my mind for a while.. Is Mukti/Liberation as cheap as it is "portrayed/interpreted" as in our Shastras??? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------- -- 'shasanaascha iti shastra' as given by Sri SMS Chari in his book 'Vaishnavism' makes it clear that 'that one which is shasana/commands is shastra'. There is no two doubts about what it says and have no doubts about its contents. Now where we find such 'command' or what comprises of shastra? is of the utmost important before dwelling on its content. It should be proved beyond doubt whatever said to contain 'commands' must be authoritative. It is written in Brahmanda purana that - whatever contained in vedas(rig etc.,), Mahabharatha, Pancharatra, Ramayana and the puranas and other works which follow these are shastra. Hence these are authoritative. Rest are duragamas and to be rejected viz., pasupatha authored by siva etc., The brahmanda purana itself is written by Vyasa and pls dont have doubts about what Lord(vyasaya vishnu rupaya...) says. Also, he segregated the puranas written by him under satvika/rajasa/tamasa thus clearly identifying what is good for us to believe. Every tamasa/rajasa puranas cannot be outright rejected, for, they also contain satvik portions in it. Now you know what to do. Belief in shastra given by the aforesaid works of Vyasa is what is 'must' when in doubt. Mukti can only be given by Mukunda and none else. Every kshetra has something to say about mukti - viz., Rameshwara, Kashi, many jyothirlingas, shakti peetas etc., Don't get confused. The level of liberation that they say is nothing when compared to what Lord assures in Geetha. E.g., the liberation from Shiva is a liberation akin to cleansing the mind (as he is manobhimani tattva). Liberation from clutter of mind is nothing compared to moksha being blessed by Mukunda. Likewise the demi gods are respectful in that context ONLY and their blessings do have severe LIMITATIONS. Even they lack the 'adhikara' to assure us brahmananda. For Example - Kashi. Everyone knows Kashi is a muktisthala now, but how many knows why it is so. They visit Vishwanatha and come back thinking they will be liberated. Unless one do sadhana of 'ramanama smarana' while bathing in Ganges in Kashi one will not get mukti. There are some aprasiddha shrutis (ramopanishat, jabalishruti etc.,) which clarify this point. Hence, in this age of kali with everyone around us devoid of truth, we should be careful to not to have a herd mentality and accepting whatever given out as truth. Truth is very difficult to seek in this age. Pls remember that without Mukunda's grace one will not get mukti and without Mukunda's mahatmyagyana it is impossible to attain liberation. So we will end up studying/following shastra in seeking mahatmyagyana of Lord. Rest as Sri Ramachandran elaborated beautifully, has to be adhered to. regards sukumar Yahoo!
